As far as my knowledge of bittorrent goes, you're absolutely correct, and it is really rather impossible to alter a torrent, short of creating an entirely new one. However, I would presume this is known, and the torrent will be of something static (Or I don't know quite as much about bittorrent as I...

Would the torrent be segmented in a way that less than the whole thing could be downloaded and seeded? I'd love to help, but don't have the bandwidth / hdd space for the whole 20 gigs.

That would be Rammstein.

Oh dear, I think I just got kicked out of every classical organisation music I belong to, simultaneously. :(

I'd have thought the mobs of people swarming to download would be more of an issue

I will download the cello suites and have a 24 hour celebratory repeated run-through :)

Really though, glad to hear it's been nailed down

Well, for a start the metadata probably changes over time as people update/correct information. And I'd say the metadata is a large part of IMSLP, if maybe not as much as the music itself.

I'd agree with jobdf on timidity - it doesn't sound wonderful, but I used it to convert a batch of midis for my iPod, and it worked nicely. Otherwise, you could use any *software* synth and recording software which supports capturing wave output.

I don't know if anybody else has read Dauglas Adams, but one of his books infers (jokingly) that all of Bach's music was infact produced mathematically by an alien spaceship.... Which is why I vote for him :)

How much of a difference would there be between editions? Is it just the writing, bowings, or what?

Bach Cello Suites

So, I've given in, and am considering buying a proper copy of Bach's cello suites - Mutopia doesn't have some of the suites, has a lot of incorrect notes and curious bowings - and I'd like a nice book - printed sheets *continuously* fall off music stands (Anybody know a solution for this, incidently...

It's not that simple - as has been stated elsewhere, people can still bring lawsuits over obviously public domain works, and IMSLP doesn't yet have the legal framework to handle these. So, no matter how completely public domain all the works hosted on the site are, it must be done properly (I.e. wit...
