Re: Turning the Scan From Hell into something readable/printable?

Thanks Coulonnus! It looks a lot better than my efforts already, at least the horizontal lines are visible now. I wonder if converting to monochrome is the best way to deal with such images though. Keeping them grayscale but fiddling around with contrast and brightness could be another option - and ...

Turning the Scan From Hell into something readable/printable?

I've been converting bad quality scans from various libraries into clean b/w images, using GIMP and simple contrast/brightness commands. But this one's got me stumped: https://imslp.org/wiki/12_Short_Organ_Pieces_(B%C3%B6hner%2C_Johann_Ludwig) It looks pretty horrible, and to make matters worse, the...

Re: Work page vandalism - false downvoting

I see the scores all have two votes, so thanks to whoever added that 5-star rating (I didn't do it myself).

Work page vandalism - false downvoting

As a composer, it saddens me immensely to see one of my work pages vandalized like this: https://imslp.org/wiki/24_Pr%C3%A9ludes_%C3%A0_danser%2C_Op.211_(Peters%2C_Rob) It's a set of piano pieces I worked hard on for almost a year now, and it's nearing completion. But someone found it necessary to g...

Re: Numbering systems in Schubert's output

There used to be confusion in the past about the numbering of the symphonies in the past (because of the publication dates of the posthumous works and the (non-)existance of a so-called "Gastein" symphony) but the general worldwide is now: 7: E major symphony D729 completed only in short s...

Re: New music "inspired by" copyrighted material: ok or not?

That's good to hear, thanks!
And yes, I'll mention it in the score. Since the manga got an anime adaption, which comes with its own musical score, people could assume the piece could be based on the anime (and its music) and not on the manga. Better to clear up possible misunderstandings right away.

New music "inspired by" copyrighted material: ok or not?

Some frustrating issue that's bothering me (as a composer) for a while. I planned to write a chamber music piece based on a manga by a Japanese author. The music doesn't depict the events in the manga literally. The three movements are just inspired by the mood of the general premise, a key scene in...

Re: Beethoven sonatas - Schnabel edition

Schnabel died in 1951, so his edition isn't PD EU yet (life +70 years), but it would be PD Canada (life + 50) provided Schnabel is the only editor.
I see we've got a couple of sonatas edited by Schnabel already (8, 17 and 19) which are labeled Non-PD US, Non-PD EU, so that makes sense.

Use of titles of (Disney) copyrighted material?

I was reviewing some old stuff of mine recently, and I stumbled upon a suite for clarinet and piano that I originally wrote in 1998 as "Winnie the Pooh suite." A sort of musical joke which was never published or performed as such. The titles of the individual movements were taken from the ...

Re: Guitar books by Bodstein, F. A

You can make a composer page for Bodstein and instead of dates for birth and death, write "flourished=1830".
That means the composer was active in that year, but other data are unknown.

Re: Nonsensical Naxos search results on pages

Couldn't the Naxos results be put at the very bottom of the work pages? Or at least remain hidden if you don't click the Performances/Recordings tab? That would be a big improvement already, yes. What we have now is the slick new page layout, with the subdued and stylish blue/grey colors being ruin...

Nonsensical Naxos search results on pages

I noticed that a lot of my pages are polluted by random Naxos search results, displayed under "Performances". For example, see http://imslp.org/wiki/6_Organ_Pieces,_Op.144_(Peters,_Rob) I wouldn't mind if they were actual search results (why, I'd love to see cd's with my music on it - one ...

Re: Sapelnikov

It's extremely simple to correct such duplicates yourself: Just edit both old and new pages and copy/paste the code containing the music (the stuff between the {{ }} brackets under "FILES") to the new page, put it below the existing code there. Then add a {{delete|reason}} note at the top ...
