Re: Upcoming changes

Well, they wouldn't tell you if your intention is to mirror it, would they?

Come to think of it, they probably wouldn't tell you anyway, since transparency is quite visibly not something that is valued at IMSLP.

Re: Upcoming changes

I'm terribly sorry, but I believe I'm being very rational when I question contradictory and disturbing statements coming from the very people that are trying to convince us they should be trusted. All decisions are made by Project Petrucci's full board of managers, who have extensive experience in b...

Re: Upcoming changes

Am I the only one thinking it is funny how past posts and ominous announcements referred to "a team of dedicated people" and "full board of administrators with tons of experience in non-profits" and "several top contributors were consulted" suddenly became in the last p...

Re: Upcoming changes

I naively thought that IMSLP was a Canadian non-for-profit organization. [...] This means that of course, I get a tax receipt for it. I am still at odds trying to understand why this is not the case. I really think IMSLP should be a non profit, for a bunch of reasons. It's important however to note...

Re: Regarding the new advertising

However, I am not suggesting that donations to IMSLP should necessarily be tax-deductible. Since IMSLP is based in Canada, and most of its users are in countries spread over the world, tax-deductibility would not be of much of an inducement to make donations. I think it will not make much differenc...

Re: Upcoming changes

I concur. I personally founded 2 non-profits (an amateur orchestra and a concert society) in Quebec. The system is a bit different than the rest of Canada at we have a different registering authority, but the process is essentially the same and we are eligible to federal charity status even if incor...

Re: Upcoming changes

This only partly reassures me. The fact it took so long for anyone to give this kind of response is puzzling. This last message should have been posted weeks ago. There are still things I don't understand. If IMSLP is a Canadian project, aiming at respecting Canadian copyright laws, founded by a Can...

Re: Upcoming changes

I was under the impression that those scores were published on IMSLP under a CC license and not as Public Domain (even though they are technically also PD), and were thus exempt from the wait period. But yes, indeed, there are many editions of works previously available only in facsimile, sometimes ...

Re: Upcoming changes

Is there any concrete plan of Edward to make IMSLP into a community-owned project or does he want to keep it his own private business? I think his lack of response in this thread and his constant dodging of questions about financial disclosure and transition to a non-profit organization speak for t...

Re: Upcoming changes

I would add, EVEN if the files are available for free from a library's online collection, unless IMSLP has a deal and authorization to mirror the files, i think we should not be putting them on IMSLP (why not only link to their website instead of hosting a copy of the actual file), the reason being,...

Re: Upcoming changes

That is why I'm not talking about files imported from other libraries, but scores that contributors physically took from libraries, scanned, and then uploaded, often without the library even knowing. In some cases, scores that are not made available for free by the library. Also, in a specific case ...

Re: Upcoming changes

Scans imported from other libraries should be treated like CC scores, as already commented. But they're not. Also, I'm not taking about scores imported from libraries, I'm telling about scores scanned or copied from libraries and uploaded on IMSLP without their authorization. Such files arguably sh...

Re: Upcoming changes

Coulonnus The CC scores are already exempted from the delay. or the PD scanned scores which don't require such a hard work. Have you ever scanned every page of a 300+ pages Mahler symphony score, plus every page of every of the 50 instrumental parts (which range from 8 to 40+ pages)? Do you know how...

Re: Upcoming changes

I don't want to underestimate the work made by IMSLP volunteers, quite to the contrary, I think they are all doing an amazing job, and yes, there a unique and rare scores or editions on the site, for sure. I'm sorry if my reply sounded like I don't think their contribution is valuable. However, I wi...
