Instead of a scanner for delicate items, what about using a good digital camera (with good lighting)?
Not ideal, but in a pinch, maybe?

Re: Strauss: "Pizzicato Polka"
Samuca, that's the "Neue" Pizzicato Polka by Johann Strauss II.
I need the "original" Pizzicato Polka by Johann and Josef, in the generic transcription, not a concert version or a simplified edition.

Strauss: "Pizzicato Polka"
Does anyone have the solo-piano version of this work by Johann and Josef Strauss?
I know that it was reprinted in the Dover book of Strauss dances, but I can't find my copy right now.
A full score would be nice, too.

Re: Counting downloads
The other thing to look for with frequently downloaded files, besides quality of the images, is the size of the files. If the size can be reduced (regardless of image quality), that can help with bandwidth, etc.

Borodin's symphonies, piano solo, Soviet edition
Please let me know whether any of the contents of the following score are eligible for IMSLP (last I checked, the piano-solo transcription of the 2nd symphony is uploaded already, in the original edition): А. Бородин. Симфонии. Переложение для фортепиано Издательство "Музыка." Москва 1972....

For the Rimsky-Korsakov, go to http://imslp.org/wiki/Tale_of_Tsar_Salt ... Nikolai%29 and scroll down to "Vocal score excerpt from Act III, Tableau 1" of the opera.

I'd prefer "violist da gamba," but I'm weird that way.

Re: Opera vocal scores without full orchestral scores
As to the question of why so few full orchestral scores of operas on IMSLP, I would imagine that, besides the difficulty of access to some scores because they are only in manuscript or had only limited distribution, the main problem is the sheer monumentality of scanning them. I've scanned Rimsky-Ko...

Another thing is to be sure not to limit yourself to chords in root position.

Then again, the Rimsky-Korsakov isn't a march -- unless you've got three legs.allegroamabile wrote:Ha, I was thinking the same thing, although I did know the Rimsky-Korsakov before the Mendelssohn.perlnerd666 wrote:Or you could call that a Russian version of the Mendelssohn, which comes how many years earlier?

Re: help identifying Haydn minuet
^Our library recently acquired one of the latest volumes of the Haydn Werke, a volume of miscellaneous keyboard pieces (including the well-known variations in F minor). Many of the pieces are arrangements of movements from the symphonies, of opera numbers, etc.

Re: Range field
For solo songs, the information for vocal range would have to be shown at the file level, so that different editions of the same piece in different transpositions can be accommodated.

Would it not be surprising if there is already a PDF of the score on a Chinese website somewhere?
