Re: [Bug] Invisible contributions

Hmm...I've seen this before, but it hasn't lasted so long (as in, I fire it up later that day and it works- or even in a few minutes). Maybe it's gradually getting worse over time?

Re: Rachmaninov Piano Concertos, overrated?

You do have a point, the Rhapsody is considerably more involved with the orchestra.

Re: Genre categories. Your views wanted!

Oh, and a more general kind of thing: I really think it would be great if everything were cross-searchable, but I realize that it would be an enormous amount of work (at least to reclassify everything)... Like, for instance, some kind of 'advanced search' where you could have a box for generic and s...

Re: Genre categories. Your views wanted!

My personal thought: There should be two places for instrumentation- one a generic classification (e.g. Quintet) that would be searchable, and the other the current Instrumentation box where the exact instrumentation is listed (currently not really directly searchable). The Genre would then be restr...

Re: Rachmaninov Piano Concertos, overrated?

I think they're kind of cheesy because they're very, very, very, VERY romantic, which includes lush orchestration- lush in the sense that it's extremely thick and un-idiomatic. The string parts, for instance, are incredibly uninteresting. And after all, a concerto isn't just the solo with occasional...

Re: List of Pieces with Russian Nationalism

That is unfortunate. I guess you should amend your statement to 'Volkov reports'.

Re: Rachmaninov Piano Concertos, overrated?

Well, IMO they're kind of cheesy, but they're all right. The Third is pretty good. The only bad one is the Fourth- not distinct enough.

Re: Request for Comments: Deprecation of MUS and SIB files

Yeah, it kind of could be a pain, and too complicated. I agree they should be disallowed.
In addition, maybe we could find all the ones already on there and make PDF versions (of the parts as well, if applicable). As a long-term backburner project...

Interesting, but 'Shostakovich reports'? Exactly where did you find this?

Re: Project Stravinsky: Complete pre-1923 works now available

This is an excellent resource, thank you so much for the great scan quality! However, are you entirely sure you didn't leave out the 3 Pieces for String Quartet (1914)?

Re: List of Undiscovered Beauties

Maurice Duruflé: Prélude, Recitatif, et Variations for flute, viola, and piano, Op.3 (written 1928 and first published 1929). This piece is one of the really great things that came out of the French Impressionist school- nothing is overdone (bitonality, whole-tone scales, Gregorian chant, a few jazz...

Re: List of Pieces with Russian Nationalism

Well, I'm sure someone else can correct me on this, but I'm pretty sure it's Ba la ki' rev, and Cui is pronounced 'kwee'. Or 'kuee', a little more like French.

Re: Mahler, Overrated?

shouldn't whether a composer is overrated or not be based on the music and not the supporters – overzealous they still may be. Well, the supporters are the ones rating him/her, so 'overrated' could just mean that there's too much jingoism surrounding the music of that composer. I would include Bach...
