Wonderful to have the 1922 edition on IMSLP. Would it be possible to add the original 1911 text? The differences are fascinating.

I notice a number of books appearing recently--Berlioz' Instrumentation Treatise, and Draeske's Harmony Book. To date there is only one by Marx (on Beethoven's Piano Sonatas), an important writer on music. Does anyone have original German texts or translations that they could post?

Difficult to believe that Breitkopf can still get people to part with that sort of money, given that there at least two modern editions in progress. Maybe the publisher should be asked if it wants to put the Spitta edition on-line at IMSLP. Unfortunately I don't have access to the edition.

I agree that the partbooks would be a good addition to IMSLP. They are reproduced as part of the Cremona edition, and, while they (presumably) cannot be copied from that source, there must be earlier reproductions that could now be scanned (as with L'Orfeo). It would be good to have the 'old' Schütz edition on IMSLP. Dover had in their catalogue Books IV, V & VIII of the Madrigals reprinted from the Malipiero edition, so maybe this throws some light on the extent of the editor's contribution (which was, principally, the transcription of the part-books into score, and adjudication when common sense indicated ...

The Henle editor states unequivocally that the UE edition uses the same plates as the 1920 printing, and 'has only [a] few changes in the music text,' so, even if the UE is not deemed PD, the earlier score would be good to have on IMSLP. You are correct about Klein, although he simply made Berg's short score playable. The British Library gives 1922 as the publication date, noting 'A slip bearing the imprint Universal-Edition, Wien, Leipzig, has been pasted on the titlepage over the words "Eigentum des Komponisten."'
