Re: Upcoming changes

The problem with virtually all print-on-demand services is the available page-sizes. All of the print-on demand publishing services that I have examined are setup to print out books, not music; books are usually smaller in size than printed music. For those services that I have seen, the largest pag...

Re: Upcoming changes

I never understood the argument that the perfect is the enemy of the good. Why don't you try a Kickstarter or IndieGogo fund-raising campaign now to see how much money it pulls in? Like chicken soup, it can't hurt. And it just might solve most of IMSLP's current money woes. Whether or not it will co...

Re: Upcoming changes

The most effective and painless way to fund IMSLP on a long term basis would be an annual fund-raising campaign through Kickstarter or IndieGogo. (I prefer IndieGogo because they permit the entity raising funds to keep the donations even if the campaign does not reach its stated goal. However, Kicks...

Re: Regarding the new advertising

Let's start with the premises that (1) IMSLP has become central and indispensible to the functioning of the international world of Classical Music; and (2) that the world of Classical Music is a large and economically powerful entity when all its parts are added together. If IMSLP ever stopped again...

Private messages to Admin. Carolus are stuck in my Outbox

Hello Carolus,

I recently "sent" two private messages to you, but both are still stuck in my IMSLP Outbox. What should I do to get them delivered to you?

Jacques Offenbach. cellist

Jacques Offenbach was a virtuoso cellist. Early in his career, he composed a considerable amount of music for cello. Aside from several Duo's for 2 cellos, IMSLP has none. Recently, his Concerto militaire for cello and orchestra -- a work of utterly stupefying virtuosity -- was recorded. Offenbach a...

Re: Gabriel Fauré; La Bonne chanson (chamber music version)

Many thanks to you, Coulonnus. It is indeed remarkable to find, and have online access, to Faure's manuscript for this version of La Bonne chanson.

Gabriel Fauré; La Bonne chanson (chamber music version)

Gabriel Fauré published his vocal work, la Bonne chausson, in two version: for voice and piano (which IMSLP already has;) and for voice, string quartet and piano (which IMSLP does not have.) I would be most grateful if someone could scan and post the chamber music version, both full score and separa...

J. S. Bach Manuscript

Is the following in the public domain in the US? --a manuscript by J. S. Bach, published in color facsimile in or before the 1970s by Edition Peters, Leipzig. No copyright statement or year of publication appears on the publication. I am referring only to the facsimile pages of Bach's manuscript, no...

Editio Pinceps

A hypothetical question: An orchestral score by a European composer was performed in Europe in 1875 using a manuscript score and hand-copied parts. This performance is well-documented. Neither the score nor the parts were ever published, printed or copyrighted -- anywhere. The manuscript score and p...

Re: Remenyi's Violin Concerto

Some additional research into Ede Remenyi's life reveals an extraordinary career as a violin soloist, and a composer/arranger of considerable merit. Although Remenyi was not Romani, but rather Jewish, his original compositions were highly influenced by "gypsy" music -- as was his fiery vio...

Remenyi's Violin Concerto

Eduard (or Ede) Remenyi was the Hungarian violinist who, in 1853, formed a violin/piano duo with the 20-year-old Johannes Brahms, and together they toured widely. In browsing Remenyi's biography on Wikipedia, I came across the following information: "Reményi made numerous transcriptions of pian...

Re: Drdla Violin Concerto

That Jon Frohnen has the violin and vn/piano part for this concerto is welcome news. Jon, can you please scan and upload them to IMSLP. That is at least two steps in the right direction. The vn/pf reduction will not be PD in the US, since it was published in 1931. Drdla died in 1944, so he should be...

Drdla Violin Concerto

Franz Drdla composed a violin concerto, the Concert D moll pour violon avec accompagnement de piano ou d'orchestre , op. 245. According to WorldCat, there is only one copy in the US, at Claremont College in California; and two copies in Germany, in Mecklenburg and Hamburg. Evidently, from reviews at...
