Re: Franz Schmidt - Das buch mit sieben siegeln

Yes isn't it interesting that the underlay of a pre-existing text to pre-existing music can have a copyright claim??

Re: Franz Schmidt - Das buch mit sieben siegeln

My orchestral score (copyright 1954 by Universal Edition (London) Ltd, London, plate 16941, 10 pages introduction plus 384 pages) also contains an English text by T.M. Lindsay. There is a T M Lindsay who died in 1914 and wrote Biblical commentaries, so I suspect his translation of the Biblical text ...

Re: "IMSLP's biggest holes" - Most Wanted Scores

I'd love to see more 19th century Italian bel canto opera vocal and/or full scores e.g. Donizetti Don Pasquale, La fille du Regiment, Anna Bolena Bellini I puritani, I Capuleti e il Montecchi Rossini La gazza ladra, La donna del Lago, L'Italiana in Algeri, Il Turco in Italia When looking at PD piece...

Re: Sostenuto pedal usage in piano literature

I suggest you have a look at Stephen Hough's fascinating blog the other day, where he suggests that the sostenuto pedal is rarely needed at all except in contemporary music (see http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/culture/stephenhough/100006227/seldom-depressed-the-middle-pedal/). The comments on this are ...

Re: Two violin

Good luck searching - there are some modern concertos but they aren't public demain so they won't be available on IMSLP for a long time (Skalkottas, Malcolm Arnold for 2 violins and strings, Schnittke concerto grosso).

Re: Scores in old notation (medieval, renaissance etc)

Yes please! Some of us could be able to make our own editions in modern notation and then post them as well. Almost all singers will find it very hard to use the first edition Monteverdi partbooks which have been posted but they're a fantastic resource.

Re: Page about 'Used Sheet Music Stores'

In Australia I can only think of one which is dedicated to second hand music.

What might be interesting are those stores with large piles of dusty sheet music - many stores have piles of old Victorian/Edwardian era popular songs which nobody would ever think of cataloging.

Re: Page about 'Used Sheet Music Stores'

I'd support this - I suppose there might be an issue about IMSLP promoting commercial businesses rather than not-for-profit so I wonder what might be a good way of avoiding that. What would really be useful over time would be a list of second hand book shops with strong sheet music collections. From...

Re: Score passed from CPDL

Very interesting observations - you might be interested to know that my (rather shabby) vocal score does say on the title page 'Pianoforte arrangement by Havergal Brian'. It also has 'Copyright, 1925, by Ralph Vaughan Williams' both on the title page and page 1 of the score.

Re: Berwald String Quartets

The Wilhelm Hansen pocket edition of the Sinfonie Singuliere has no copyright date at all so this could be PD. The Barenreiter critical editions would be copyrighted.

Oh sorry it is too. There's a Dover full score of both piano concertos reprinting the Breitkopf edition so hopefully someone can post it.

Beethoven wrote cadenzas for the D minor concerto K466 but not for K467 as far as I know.
