Re: In the news (sort of)

Apparently the article is now not accessible (which it was this morning). But you can find it on page C1 of today's edition (April 13).

In the news (sort of)

I recently encountered a NY times article that has been all abuzz in the twitterverse, about the imminent closing of Patelson's music house in New York City. The author seems to blame the demise of the store, at least in part, to websites such as IMSLP: [Patelson's] is falling victim to a transfigur...

Lowell Liebermann is still alive and well, and all of his works are under copyright worldwide. It will not be posted to IMSLP anytime soon. Sorry.

The Tausig serenade seems to be a very rare score. I will try to see if I can find it, but it may be difficult. Congratulations on the excellent interpretation of Das Geisterschiff. I really love this work. You might like to know that for YouTube videos you can add &fmt=18 to the end of the URL ...

I scanned at 600 dpi (which obviously refers to inches on the resultant magnified image, not the microfilm), although it doesn't look nearly as clear as if I had scanned a full size score at 600 dpi (on the viewer it appeared clear enough. Perhaps there was something wrong with the focus). As for &q...

Well, I used the Canon MS 300 that was available in the library. I had a good deal of trouble figuring out how to use the device and how to make the scans look the way I wanted, but once I figured that out, it went pretty quickly. The whole thing took me about 2.5-3 hours just for the scanning (cert...

Hmm, very enlightening, Peter. Or did you mean to say that Brussels is not the capital of Belgium? What am I missing here? I'm slowly getting it all uploaded (my connection seems very slow this evening). Before you thank me, Philip, I should warn you that it was scanned from microfilm and thus is no...

Happy Holidays

Hopefully today or tomorrow I will be uploading a special score to celebrate the holiday season. Think of it as an early Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa present. Here's a hint: it's 138 MB (in total), 400+ pages, and about a famous Belgian city... Hope everyone is having a joyful holiday season. -Lyndon

My opinion: I think a student should challenge his or herself with technically difficult pieces by Liszt, etc. as soon as possible. As long as the basics of mechanism at the piano are working well, there is no need to wait until you are "ready". On the contrary, I find that it takes a grea...

Sibley has excellent ORIGINAL editions (not reprints) of the Old Mendelssohn Ausgabe. It could be part of a later project.
