As an oboist in an amateur wind ensemble myself, I found a lot of information on this bibliography of double wind quintet (ie: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 horns, 2 bassons, 2 clarinets.)

Poulenc estate

Hi all, I hope I might draw on your collective knowledge (and share a bit of frustration :) ): I like to play a piano piece by Poulenc on wind instruments. Ofcourse that means transcribing notes, and that constitutes copying them (or re-'arranging' them.) I'm not interested in publishing the transcr...

Unfortunately, you need to alter nothing to claim copyright (see the article on copyfraud cited above), however, the be entitled to it, some creative rework will be required. I have to admit that that is what I meant: I cannot justifiably claim copyright in such a way that it will hold up in court,...

What I'm saying is that in the case of scores that already are in Public Domain but are published or edited by a certain company will allow that company to sue anyone that is distributing their score for free. Altough I'm still not a lawyer, I think this is not correct. If the edition is not distin...

After checking the file, I must say that UE had all the right to ask for the removal of this work from the web site. In the first page footnote you can see that the work is copyrighted by UE. Well a footnote that a work is copyrighted doesn't make it magically stay out of Public Domain forever. Onl...

A layman asks: is it possible to run more than one server in countries with different copyright? Or is there no point in that? Although I am also no lawyer, I find that a tremendously interesting question. One that could be addressed when in a next life IMSLP is being run by some form of body, not ...

All IMSLP has to do to placate UE etc. is make downloading from the 'wrong' countries sufficiently awkward, where 'sufficiently awkward' is the hard thing to define. IMSLP argued that it had already done that, they instated the warnings, which would, according to Canadian jurisprudence -- see the b...

If anything is clear, it's that no single solution is going to cover all eventualities. One size won't fit all, but if a way can be find to get one size to fit the vast majority with only minimal inconvenience it'll be useful. I think IMSLP argues it has done that already :D . They had the one size...

I am in a territory in which this music is no longer under copyright protection. Please proceed to download the file. I am in a territory in which the music is still under copyright protection. Please return me to the IMSLP home page. There is of course also the following problem: I am in a territo...

Open letter to UE's shareholders

Hi all. I am, or rather was, an anonymous user of IMSLP. I signed up for the forums to share with you my observations about Universal Editions (UE). Don't know in which thread they would fit, so I post them here. Disclaimer: thankfully I'm not a lawyer. This is what I'd like to say to UE's sharehold...
