Alien Bots

I hadn't heard of this site before so had to take a look. Does that make me an alien bot?

Free-scores.com

:o I'm very glad that came to light. I have been debating whether I can afford to post any of my late father's works (which I am in process of re-engraving and reissuing). My problem is that I have currently no paid job, and have been living by liquidating one asset after another to pay bills. Altho...

As the library grows

I am tremendously impressed with the way the library is growing. I have felt for a long time that it was absurd that so many little-known composers' works should be available through the internet in sheet music form, but with the exception of J.S.Bach, I had not seen many scores by the great compose...

IMSLP Main Site

Does this mean the IMSLP is going to be offline for a while?

When I logged in this AM, this forum came up rather than the usual IMSLP home page.

SPAMjacking

If it made sense it wouldn't be SPAM :D There are, and presumably always will be, people in business who think that mass-mailing is more efficient than trying to identify and target a specific market. They remain wilfully ignorant of the damage they actually do to their business by wasting the time ...

SPAM defined for Kongming

SPAM is internet slang for unwanted and irrelevant messages, generally interpreted as an acronym for Sending Prolific Amounts of Mail.

i.e. advertisements for sites that are of little or no interest to the users of most fora.

PDF file splitting

Again, for this I recommend PDFTK. It runs as a DOS utility and enables you to separate pages from the PDF document. Make a note of the start and end pages of each section you want to separate from the document and use PDFTK to separate those pages to a new file.

PDF file conversion

Perhaps I could recommend PrimoPDF. It is a small program that "looks like" a printer to programs on the computer, and produces a PDF file rather than hardcopy. It has the advantages of (a) being freeware, and (b) not adding annoying watermarks to printed documents. To convert a scan to PD...

The "Correct" score

On the other hand, I do slightly perfer scans over retypesets just because I know that professional musicians will only use published material, and not retypesetted material done by an anonymous person (no offense meant, just that it's the truth). Not always  I'd say if the version is corr...

Re: File problem

I found the orchestration to the Pictures at an Exhibition but when I zip everything together, it becomes 127 MB! :o  Soo...any tips?? Retypesetting the entire thing is a lot of work. I have already started doing it with Finale PrintMusic 2006 though... How large would each of the files be i...

Images

As far as I know, the only way to add an image to a message here is to upload it to the internet, then use the [Img] button above the message composition window to link to it. It would probably be quicker and simpler to email it to me directly: novawoman@hotmail.com and I will try to figure out why ...

A Long Shot

This has to be a long shot, but it's certainly worth a try given the resources you have available.

Do you, possibly, please please please, have Henry Purcell's "Music for a while"? (Lyric by John Dryden).

Vandalism

Is it just my paranoia kicking in? or is the level of vandalism to the Wiki increasing?

There is a link to some snippets at:
Disabling anonymous edits

I would make the change myself, but don't have access to the PHP files (which is probably just as well).

Browser issues

For what it's worth, I have become very cautious about using new Microsoft products since one of the Hotmail technical support staff recommended I switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox. I would suggest, if it is possible, ask a friend, or colleague who has the new IE to try opening the site. If t...

Uploaded

OK, I have tossed caution to the wind and uploaded the file in question under the German title (Des todten Dichters Liebe). Any German speakers might like to translate the title for xenophobes like me, and maybe even the text which is parallel German and Polish(?).
