I would really really really like to see some of the scores you people write... oooohhh I am sooooo excited by anything for large orchestra!!!! :D
I'm very curious to know how you are able to orchestrate for such grand ensembles!!

Let alone 20 French Horns and 10 harps? Yowzas.

For the scores by the composer aforementioned in the subject line, I have one word to reflect my opinion towards the amount (paucity) currently hosted on IMSLP: MOOOAAAAARRRR!!!!!!!!!!! :x :!: :!:   :D [Ahem. *Clears throat*] That should pretty much do it. Any efforts will be much ap...

Re: New look for Forums? Ugh....

I dunno.... I kinda like this new format (pardon my colloquialisms :D ) I find the new color scheme to be refreshing, a sight for sore eyes, ut ita dicam . The old one seemed overused and monotone (maybe I've seen it too much). Just a personal opinion based on my own observations and experience...

LOTR definitely pwns HP :P So, apparently on the dress rehearsal of the premiere, Mahler was so worked up over the third hammer blow that when he was backstage, he couldn't stop walking up and down and sobbing violently. He was so shaken by it that for the premiere, he conducted badly. That's accord...

HAHA!!! I've heard that before

Anyway, Mahler is supposed to be the great tree...

"Heavens! I've forgotten the motor horn! Now I have to write another symphony!" -from a cartoon satirizing Mahler's unusual use of percussion instruments

Mahler actually said the hammers were to be of a nonmetallic character so therefore striking an anvil with a hammer won't work and is thus not his original conception.
It has to be a dull thud, magnificent in sound, "like that of a tree being felled."

Isn't that typically how it's done nowadays?

How else is the hammer done? I've only heard of the wooden crate way.
