Re: New category - Basso Continuo Sources

I think she probably meant tags can't be suggested in some sort of automated user-driven mechanism, or something like that, since while the tagging guidelines can and have been amended on many an occasion, at any particular point they can be assumed to be immutable - that is, they apply to every pag...

Re: New category - Basso Continuo Sources

Well, wouldn't it be rather superfluous anyway, given that things which include continuo outside of large ensembles/orchestras are already tagged specifically for them? Isn't there a 'scores featuring basso continuo' category, or some such, as things stand presently?

Re: Heinrich Schutz scores

I assume you mean Adobe Reader - have you tried using a different program to open the files? For example, I'm using qpdfview and the couple test Schutz downloads I tried displayed perfectly fine.

Re: Titelouze, Magnificat tertii Toni

I can't think of any language where the adjective comes after the noun ... Well, for a start, how about all the Romance languages? Though I think it's clear anyway that the word fugue here refers to the musical form and does not serve to describe, say, the fugue state in which one might find onesel...

Re: Hamlet Orchestral score and parts Thomas

Well, I assume the OP meant the score to the entire opera, not just the excerpts on that page. I'm not so sure there even is a printed edition of the full score.

Re: What constitutes a new edition?

Can you read a Schirmer edition of a work, and enter the notes and markings into a notation program and have it be a new edition and not in violation of copyright? If it is out of copyright in your jurisdiction, then yes, absolutely. What about if you read it and play it into a midi file and conver...

Re: St. Emmeram Codex

Only to volume 2, but to be on the somewhat excessively safe side, the status of volume 1 may also depend on its prior publication history - any earlier engravings or manuscript facsimiles, how earlier copies were distributed, etc. A cursory search on WorldCat shows that libraries in Switzerland and...

Re: Please, explain why this edition can be freely downloade

How can you be sure that that is a urtext edition? Well, have a look at the title page: Ausgabe nach den Quellen . (There are also a few footnotes that indicate the original score had a Revisionsbericht , see e.g. page 8.) On further examination this appears to be not quite a straight urtext, as so...

Re: Please, explain why this edition can be freely downloade

It's an urtext edition, though, so Klemm's contributions don't count for full copyright status in Canada and the EU, at least (don't know about South Africa). Not sure why it's not blocked in the US, however - at a guess, it might have to do with its publication being in the GDR.

Re: What constitutes a new edition?

Rob Peters wrote:... first editions of a work by a composer in the public domain (so-called "Urtext".)

Just to add to what's been said, I'm pretty sure you're thinking of editio princeps here, not urtext - the latter signifies a scientific or scholarly edition.

Re: New York Philharmonic Archives

I don't know about the parts, but they certainly do have some stuff that's at least uploadable here, such as Mitropoulos's annotated score of Mahler 6 for the 1955 performance. There's no way that isn't clear for Canadian status, though I don't really know how the US status would be decided - I gues...

Makes automatic alphabetization far easier, and ensures that the titles remain unambiguous to all no matter what language they were written in.

Re: A few requests

That is is copyright only regarding the mechanical print of the music and not the editing, whether modern or urtext? I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this, I guess I'll throw a few points out and see if they help: The "mechanical print of the music" is relevant when assessing date o...

Re: unknown composer dates

It has to be done by changing the names of the fields in the template: instead of having the separate fields for year, month, and day, you'd rewrite the whole line as '|Birth Date=18??' (IIRC). Unlike the default ones, this field is interpreted by the template as just literal text to be displayed wi...
