Re: Copyright for arrangements

Depends on where you are. If you're in the USA, permission for the arrangement is required before arranging. You know, I've seen similar comments on the board before. It doesn't quite make sense how the ACT of arranging anything could be illegal. Now obviously sharing, pushlishing, selling...whatev...

Re: Danzi: Horn Concerto (unsure of Opus)

And here I am three and a half years later tagging my DLed copy (which means because record companies are stupid, no actual info on something I bought...). I'm almost wondering if it's an arrangement/orchestration of something given the lack of opus number, though it's not of the horn sonatas at lea...

Re: Translating a copyrighted poem

To put things into perspective, anyone who reads something from a language that isn't their 'natural' one is translating it in their head. Writing this down isn't exactly any different. But again, distributing it to someone else is a whole different matter.

Re: Translating a copyrighted poem

It seems to me based on what I've read that the translation itself would fall under 'academic fair use' but couldn't be distributed.

I think you missed the point that some of her comments were deleted (i.e. only an admin can see them now).

Melodia: And if you're late paying a bill because a member of your family is sick, why should XYZ Corporation make an exception for you when you call them and plead for a bit more time? It would be a sad state of affairs for IMSLP to be in the same league as Bell or British Telecom or AT&T, a f...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP

Andrew, I think Feduol said it best and a couple others before him as well, but allow me to reiterate -- why should an exception be made for DIAMM? Yes it might be the right thing to do if you look at it from your standpoint of "it'll placate them and allow even more"....but it's be a TERR...

Re: DIAMM and IMSLP

Andrew, others have touched on it, but you seem to be missing the difference between the physical item and its contents. OBVIOUSLY the physical texts stored at those libraries are owned by them. Anyone trying to make off with them would be a thief, no question about it. But the CONTENTS of what's in...

Actually the original was for band, Jacob transcribed it for orchestra.

Re: Extension of copyright on cowritten works in EC

It especially doesn't make sense how they can suddenly make things go from PD to not-PD. This isn't even like that time in the 90s with the Soviet-era stuff. It's just...well it doesn't make any sense. At all.

Re: E{{flat}} piccolo clarinet

As the Wikipedia page said, some 20th century composers used 'piccolo clarinet' for Eb in their scores, however, one must also remember than alto flutes are occasionally called bass flutes (for instance in The Planets). And I believe Abs are often used in European bands. But that's about it, though ...

The Eb isn't the piccolo clarinet however, the /Ab/ is.

That fragment is not, in fact from the 8th Symphony.
