Yes definitely John Williams The beginning to one of his Star Wars songs is a direct rip-off from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring (beginning of 2nd part). I think it's a Dune Sea transition song or whatever... As for Prokofiev, there is this one movie, I can't remember what it is... Ah OK, so Berlioz? Y...

Large orchestra with hidden textures
You can find them all over the more recent orchestral works, perhaps starting with Richard Wagner (someone check the veracity of that please!) to now with some film composers such as John Williams (that Prokofiev-Stravinsky-[Ravel?] mixer) and Howard Shore. There are those notes that are played by i...

Wouldn't the combination of VC, CB, and harpsichord be the basso continuo of the baroque and early classical period? I have seen a couple of live orchestral (in the Baroque sense of the term) Bach performed by the Jacksonville Symphony and I noticed all three (hint 1) onstage. Then my violin teacher...

Wow...Great work! It's a good thing you kept all of that stuff! I'll try to complete the 2 piano transcription...meanwhile... Let's get back to the topic. Does anybody know of any accounts of the riot at the premiere? There is a recreation of it by BBC and is on YouTube (in crappy video quality, but...

The problem is, I have been so busy, it's probably never going to finish. However, if it does, I will typeset it and upload! That would be a great idea! Indeed, it is a good way to learn the internals of a piece, especially one for such large orchestra! Actually, the typesetting will probably be th...

Stravinsky made the 2 piano, 4 hands reduction himself. Dover has reprinted this (origially issued by Edition Russe in 1920 or so) sells it for a very reasonable price. Here's the link for the Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/Spring-Piano-Hands-Classical-Keyboard/dp/0486445399/sr=1-3/qid=11701376...

Strav made a one piano, 4 hand arrangement, not a two piano arrangement. Yes there are two one piano arrangements. One is by Strav (for the rehearsals) but I haven't seen it. Another is by Vladimir Leyetchkiss (spelling?) which I do have and is terribly hard to play, because he has notes going every...
