Joseph Joachim

The following pieces by Joseph Joachim would be most welcome. Variations for Violin and Orchestra in E minor (ca. 1879) Op. 2, Three Pieces, (circa 1848–1852), Romanze, Fantasiestück, Eine Frühlingsfantasie for Violin or Viola and Piano Variationen über ein irisches Elfenlied for piano Andantino in ...

Cimarosa's Il Maestro di capella FS

Can anyone supply the full score for Domenico Cimarosa's "Il Maestro di capella"? IMSLP has a piano reduction, but not the orchestral score.

Paolo Litta

The posting of La Deesse nue by Paolo Litta was a revelation. How is it possible that a Romantic composer of such imagination and accomplishment is virtually unknown today? I have located several of his scores in Italian libraries. Could anyone in Italy possibly scan and post them? Tamariska : la da...

Re: Lost works you would most like to hear or find the score

Mahler's lost works include four for the stage. The first two, Herzog Ernest von Schwaben and Die Argonauten are juvenilia and probably not significant (although with Mahler, one never knows.) But the third, Ruebezahl , was an opera (with libretto by GM) that obsessed Mahler for nearly five years (1...

Re: Lost works you would most like to hear or find the score

My nomination for the most important lost score yet to be found is the Symphonie en Si mineur by Charles-Valentin Alkan. There is no doubt Alkan completed this work. The score was analyzed in a published article, with examples. The premiere was scheduled for performance in Paris, when Alkan suddenly...

Futuristic Music

Futurism was a musical (and fine arts) movement that began in Italy in 1909. Although short-lived as a cohesive movement, it had an enormous impact on many major 20th Century composers. However, very little sheet music is available today of the Futuristic scores that created the movement. The first ...

Sets of orchestral parts

A considerable annoyance, and an unnecessary one, is frequently encountered when one wishes to download a large set of orchestral parts. For many orchestral works, each part has been posted separately and must be downloaded separately. I am not suggesting that parts should not be posted separately, ...

Women Composers

Fynnjamin evidently expended a great deal of time and effort to compile a list of links to women composers represented on IMSLP at http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Women_composers . And for that he is due much thanks. However, his efforts appear to be hidden. I only came across his compilation by acci...

Copyright hypothetical

I've made an original orchestral arrangement of an instrumental work that was first published in Germany in 1929. The composer died more than 70 years ago. As far as I know, the 1929 copyright was properly renewed in the US, and the original work is still protected in the US. However, it is now PD i...

Re: “The Mysterious Axman’s Jazz (Don’t Scare Me Papa).” Jo

Hello Elvira, I have a photocopy of the music of Joseph John Davilla's "The Mysterious Axman’s Jazz (Don’t Scare Me Papa).” [The comic cover has been reproduced in several books.] Moreover, I have undertaken exhaustive research on the New Orleans Axman serial murders to which the song refers. I...

WIDOR; Fugue sur le nom de Haydn

In January 1910, to mark the centenary of Joseph Haydn's death, the Revue Musicale of the Société Internationale de Musique published six pieces by French composers based on a theme derived from Haydn's name. One of those pieces was a fugue by Charles Widor. I would greatly appreciate anyone posting...

Briccialdi

I am searching for "Il Vento" for flute and piano by Giulio Briccialdi (2 March 1818 — 17 December 1881). IMSLP has already posted some of his works. I would be interested in any of his other pieces for flute and piano. There is no catalog of his music on Wiki. DId he compose anything for ...

Women

IMSLP lists composers categorized according to their nationality. One of the most extraordinary contributions of IMSLP is the number of virtually unknown women composers whose music has been exhumed from historical oblivion. I suggest there be another index on IMSLP: for women composers.

Opera libretti

How about posting printed libretti for the p. d. operas on IMSLP -- especially for the numerous operas that still remain in manuscript? (The libretti for these operas were often published separately -- even though the scores may not have been engraved or professionally copied.) The words in these ms...
