I am currently an undergraduate piano performance major at an American university. I really hope to either perform or teach professionally one day. I do not compose at all, but I love studying music history, and listening to all sorts of genres of works from all eras and styles. I do a lot of solo p...

The Khachaturian piano concerto (like a lot of Shostakovich's stuff) was once published by Kalmus. It's not in their catalogue any more, which makes me believe it is no longer PD in the US. (A shame, too, for it's a fantastic piece!)

You're thinking of the "See-Saw" piece from the set ...... (I can't remember the title... Sketches? or something?). I think Sorabji gets pretty crazy, as does Michael Finnissey.

Hello Judith, and welcome. Beethoven has a Serenade for Flute, Violin, and Viola, Op. 25. Are you aware of it? I will try to upload it to the website if not. There are probably many other works out there for this combination. If you have access to a good music library at a school or university, try ...

That's crazy... so anyone could have reprinted it, even immediately after publication? Or was the czechoslovakian law different before it was the republic? Thanks for your help, Carolus. I'm away from home right now and I will definitely upload the files when I get back. I also have a lot of pdfs of...

Copyright review: Dvorak Concerto

I have pdfs of the Piano Concerto of Anton Dvorak, containing the solo piano parts of both Dvorak and Vilem Kurz (1872-1945) and an orchestral reduction. It was published by Editio Supraphon Praha (Prague) in 1955 as part of the Critical Edition of Dvorak's Works. Might this be uploadable? I know th...

Linking to errata

In the course of scanning the Medtner complete works edition, I have discovered 4 pages of errata which apply to the first two volumes of the set (opp. 1-31 of the piano works). Should I just scan and upload these four pages and link to the file from each work page? If so, where should I link to it?...

Often this happens to me because a space is placed at the very end or perhaps the very beginning. Be careful for this, and if nothing else, cut and paste the exact filename from when you upload it.

I agree. I always type in something for a mainspace search and hit enter, and end up having to go back and type it in again and press the right button. If someone is looking for a category search, the mainspace search will bring it up as well, am I correct?

From Grove's dictionary: "...but composers at London concerts about 1790–1800 directed from the piano, playing from the bass throughout, as Haydn is reported to have done in his London symphonies." As we said earlier, in this era there wasn't much attention given to what the composer wante...

I recall learning that Haydn played keyboard continuo during performances of his symphonies at Esterhazy. I think it was common practice at the beginning of the classical period to have a continuo part played on harpsichord with any symphony, although it soon became optional. In modern performances ...

Works published in the former Soviet Union

I think that there was already a thread on this subject, but I couldn't find it. I need some information on some scores I am considering scanning that were published in the former Soviet Union, by the State Music Publishers unless otherwise noted. Examples: Alexander Scriabin, 1st Symphony, 1971 Kab...
