Use PDF split and Merge (http://www.pdfsam.org/) using the 'Merge' option. Just load that single file in and select an output file. Since it has nothing to merge it will output a decrypted copy.

The dover reprint I have (from the complete works edition published by Breitkopf c.1900-1910) is pretty good. I think the times I've played this work it's always been from this Breitkopf printing. Isn't this supposed to be the definitive version?

Any verdict on determining if those 2 posthumous works I uploaded are PD? I'm referring to the first violin sonata and the sheherazade overture. Thanks for checking. Assuming these are PD, then I have a few more (songs mostly) that I could upload almost completing Ravel's complete works list aside f...

Ravel scores published posthumously

Since Ravel is PD in Canada, what about scores published after he died? For example, I uploaded (but should have asked first) Une barque sur L'océan, which was first published in 1983, and some other scores published around '75...what's the rule of thumb for these? Are they not PD if only an editor ...

I guess it depends what kind and type of arrangement has taken place. In general, I would say to list the work under the composer's name but obviously in the score type to list the arrangement type and arranger. Can you give some specific examples where you might NOT want to list the transcription/a...

My 2 most-used resources for this are Grove music online (requires a subscription; many universities purchase access to this database), used for finding when a certain piece was written. And the WorldCat, also another subscription database, but again many universities have access, for determining wh...

I just now saw the notice under the Khachaturian section on the wish list...should have looked there earlier.

When will his works, or at least the piano concerto go into the public domain? And will it go into PD worldwide or one country/group before another?

Khachaturian

Khachaturian died in 1978 and his piano concerto was written c.1936 and published a year later (unless I'm mistaken). Because of the crazy Russian/Armenian copyright laws in relation to Canada and the US, what works including this piano concerto would be in PD?

The Goldmark concerto was written around 1877 and published pre-1900 by Schweers & Haake, but the more notable edition was published in 1922 by Carl Fischer and edited by Leopold Auer. So depending on when Auer died it might be PD in the US. Goldmark died in 1915 so this should be PD elsewhere u...

Ok thanks for the response. Well, at least I'll be able to squeeze some of his earlier piano works in, including the "Saudades" and "Printemps".

Milhaud works

Milhaud died in '74, therefore none of his works are PD in either the EU or Canada, and only those published pre-1923 are PD in the US? I want to make sure I have it right before I start upload a mass of his works.

L'Apprenti Sorcier transcription by Sandor

A transcription for piano 2 hands was published by Schirmer in 1950, but Sandor (a colleague and champion of Bartok's music, as you may know) died 2005. Is this eligible for upload to IMSLP?

This is the response from a Sibelius expert friend of mine in Finland regarding the situation: There are TWO versions of the violin concerto. Both can be found on the BIS series of Complete Sibelius. The earlier (1st version) of 1903 (I think) is much wider... much longer... a lot of 'extra' materia...

Yep this is the same score-it has the typeset version and the manuscript. I was pretty sure it wasn't in the PD anywhere but wanted to ask in case.

Bartok concerto for orchestra piano reduction

Bartok completed a piano reduction of his famous concerto for orchestra but it was engraved and published for the first time (if I'm not mistaken) in 2001 by B & H edited by György Sandor. I just want to confirm that this would in fact NOT be PD anywhere in the world, despite Bartok's works bein...
