Friedrich Kuhlau Fantasias for solo flute Op.38

... published by a well known Austrian music publisher. Editor: Frans Vester, Copyright 1975 In the preface, the editor writes: This edition gives the "Urtext". Obvious printer's errors are corrected without mention. Additions of the editor are shown in brackets. Additional slurs are dotte...

I would have to agree with this... Perhaps Composer's versions vs. Versions by Other hands is a better first level division. It probably has more application than Complete Work vs. Excerpts. It also makes it easier to perhaps divide a page for some of the above mentioned popular works. I'm sure ther...

LC Categories

Seeing as I'm a librarian...

The Library of Congress (LC) has solved the problem of music categories a long time ago. Generally in the IMSLP there seems to be some re-inventing going on... Rather than trying so hard we might just use the LC categories?

Ads

Edward has made such an eloquent explanation for this, it seems uncharitable to post a criticism -- but here goes... Though the format has been kept simple, these adds are still 'in your face'. In addition, the people here are looking for sheet music, not recordings - that may or may not be a second...

Holy Cow!

Did you say 340MB?! Hey - not all of us have a fibre link! By comparison, the scans I have been preparing for upload are 20-40KB per page, a factor of 500 smaller. (albeit, black dots on a white background). If you are scanning a monochrome facsimile image, I suggest you scan to black and white TIFF...

Instant U.S.A. Copyright Flowchart

Hi, copyright rules in USA are so complicated, one legal firm made an *excellent* flowchart for humans to follow. Perhaps we can put a link to this somewhere when the site is back up. Our American friends are probably as confused about this as anyone else! Here it is... http://www.bromsun.com/practi...

Op.21

Hi Aldona, I have this work - albeit fragile and yellowed (hey - that must mean it's PD  ) 'Editions Costallat - Paris' It's also known as "Le Désir - Valse de Schubert, Variations". It has the plate# mentioned by daphnis. It is oversize and will be a bit finicky to scan. If you can'...

A cold thread warmed over

Hi everyone, Some talk further to these ideas... I am librarian for an amateur orchestra (see http://www.dundasvalleyorchestra.ca ). I will not buy UE personally or have my orchestra do so in the future. I would guess that UE underestimated the consequences of it's present course... anyway... I now ...

While we wait for IMSLP to be reborn...

... there is at least one useful task that casual interested parties - 'the rest of us' - could busy ourselves with. Just before IMSLP was taken down in fall 2007 I posted a "feature request" for a 'Humongous list of composers, arrangers, editors, translators, ...", including the year...

Welcoming Publishers to IMSLP

Though it doesn't solve the current situation, a new feature may make the existence of IMSLP more palatable to music publishers and others with commercial interests. This is to include links to publishers and other vendors on the web site. No, I don't mean advertisements. I'll be more specific. Pres...

[FEAT] Humongous list of composers / arrangers / editors

... with their years of birth and death. Unless I am missing something, it is very difficult to find out *when* those who have created or helped to create music lived. Information on many of the more popular composers is well known, and easily available on the Internet or in library catalogues (e.g....
