Re: Italian word

Potrebbe essere invece 'ponibile' (non so se è una parola ma forse vuol dire 'trustworthy' in inglese) o 'punibile' ('punishible' in inglese). C'è più contesto?

Re: Danse Macabre

Well, if it's worth doing, then it's worth doing right! ;-) Agreed. The Violin I part would benefit from the first page turn being directly after figure C or the thirteen bar multi-rest immediately following. If bars 364 and 365 could be squeezed back onto page 3, then the four bar multirest from 3...

Re: Danse Macabre

That was a very thorough review! Thanks. I've fixed most of the simple errors. Accent/slur collisions, cue note/whole rest collisions and lower multi-measure rests during cue sections haven't been corrected yet. I also added a solo violin / violin I part as suggested (though I haven't add any harp o...

Here's a potential part. I tried to add cues from the first violins when available. It may be getting a bit cluttered. Anyway let me know if it looks somewhat acceptable and I'll add it to the page.

Re: Danse Macabre

A quick typesetting wouldn't be too difficult. That is without cues or thought out page turns, but even these wouldn't be too difficult with some good feedback. One question: when the soloist is resting do they usually go back to playing with the first violins? or do they actually rest?

Re: Scanning/PDF Guidelines

Avoid jpeg and other lossy formats. Most image programs should be able to save an image as a tiff with CCITT group 4 compression. Some free possibilities are gimp and irfanview. The people over at http://www.diybookscanner.org/ have been steadily improving scantailor . It can do some fairly impressi...

Re: Strange string notation

These are triple or quadruple stopped notes. I believe they're played just as you described.

Re: need info on 'pf' marking

Check out Brahms Academic Festival Overture (measure 129, 2 measures after the key change to g major and a few measures before rehearsal mark F). In the score (all editions here that I've looked at) all the strings parts indicate 'pf' except the first violin part which has 'poco f'. Also if you look...

See http://imslp.org/wiki/Public_domain and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitri_Shostakovich. Bottom line is his works do not enter the public domain in Canada until after the year 2025.

(See also http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Stravinsky,_Igor for a similar situation.)

It's a real long shot, but if you have no other takers: http://imslp.org/wiki/200_%C3%89tudes_Nouvelles_M%C3%A9lodiques_et_Progressives_pour_Cor_%28Alphonse,_Maxime%29 . I know Carolus mentioned Ricordi, but if you have time and absolutely nothing else to do some of Respighi's works would be nice to...

Re: Public domain arrangements of Christmas Standards?

http://www.hymnsandcarolsofchristmas.com/ - There aren't many arrangements and many of the hymns just list the lyrics. It's not a bad starting place for making your own arrangement though.
