If there is no better solution I am ready to slice the pages in parts and glue portions of parts of each instrument together. But this will yield unpleasant spacings (long rests or full notes). Will the result pass imslp's typesetting-standard test?

Try a discussion in the work page. Hopefully the author has put a Watch on this page.

Please look at my monochrome version. With the previous versions the average brightness varies and when you want to convert to monochrome you either loose some lines or obtain large black areas when you try to find the right threshold. Because of this I have converted it with an application of mine....

Add your XML file(s) as if they were were one more scan of a score. Then edit the page and concatenate the two sections between { and } into one.
