Schubert Piano Trio No.2 - original finale

Can anybody find a copy of Schubert's original (uncut) final movement of the second Piano Trio (D.929/ Op.100 in E flat)? I heard a performance of it yesterday and I was intrigued. One minute you're in familiar Schubert territory and the next minute the music seems to detour into this alternate univ...

I'd like to second that request.

I heard a recording of the Mahler orchestration and it was magnificent.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Philidor wrote:Mozart piano sonata in C major, K. 545.
A good old favourite! Brings back memories of childhood piano lessons. This was the first complete sonata I learned to play, and I'm sure a lot of pianists had similar experiences in their learning days.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Moniuszko - "Halka" (opera). CPO recording, Polish National Opera Orchestra and Chorus. Previously I was only familiar with Halka's aria from act 2 (every Polish bathroom soprano knows this one, just as every Pavarotti wannabe can put on a rousing rendition of "Celeste Aida" in t...

Re: Schubert @ Sibley - files in need of splitting

...and sorry to be a pain after all your hard work, but I have just had a look at the files and it seems that you have the two trios under each other's work pages! Trio No. 1 (D.898) is the B-flat trio and Trio No. 2 (D.929) is the E-flat trio. (went to print out another copy as I had misplaced my p...

Re: Happy Christmas!

The book of Psalms is the "songbook" of the Bible. Many of the psalms have authors attributed (e.g. "a psalm of David") but I do not see anything resembling a copyright notice, or any instruction to "contact King David to gain permission before performing or copying this son...

Re: The End of "Genres"

A march /is/ a dance, in musical terms. And if you consider dancing as "moving your body in a specific way to a stable rhythm", then marches certainly fit. (tries to imagine an army advancing towards the enemy to the tune of Schubert's Marche Militaire D.733/1...) :? (visualises enemy for...

Re: Schubert @ Sibley - files in need of splitting

Thank you!!! That was quick! And a happy holiday season and prosperous New Year to you too. (I had already printed out the trios for my own use, but I know there are lots of people out there who, unlike me, do not frequent both the IMSLP and Sibley websites.) And now that the dishes have been cleare...

Schubert @ Sibley - files in need of splitting

There is a Litolff edition (ca.1860) of the parts for the Schubert string quartets D.804, D.87, D.353 and D.810 (in that order) in the Sibley digital collection. However, each of the .pdf files contains all 4 quartets for a given instrument. https://urresearch.rochester.edu/institutionalPublicationP...

Re: Facebook page for Cui

I remain stunned at your appreciation for Cui. I believe that we do not choose our favourite music...it chooses us. (I have a theory that our favourite composers are those whose brains are "wired" in a similar way to our own, in regard to emotions, thought processes, personality, etc.) al...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

I've noticed some pieces by Brahms, such as cadenzas for various Beethoven piano concertos, bearing notices like "Incorporating material composed by Clara Schumann." I'm sure that many of his works would have been influenced by her - many of them were written for her, and she would have be...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Clara Schumann's piano concerto (Op.7 in A minor, 1853-55), and especially pressing the "repeat" button on the final movement - to think she started writing it at the age of 14, and performed the finished version at 16! What treasures would the musical repertoire have gained if Clara conti...

Re: Not your usual orchestra performance...

I really love it! I'm not usually a huge fan of this style of music (what would you call it - aleatoric? minimalist? impressionist?), but I think Nora has won me over. Not to mention the clever composer who has managed to construct an orchestral score around her improvisations. I have forwarded the ...
