Tag block

I wonder if it might be possible to impose some sort of special permission page for the tagging system. This way users who are not "librarians" couldn't change tags, and it would reducde the errors (even though there are very few anyway).

Re: Stravinsky, tagging

Stravinsky's arrangement of the folk song was actually (I believe) dictated to him chord by chord and note by note. When I heard it I didn't have any new material in it, other than the orchestration. Apropos, I think it should probably be left as an arrangement. Le roi des étoiles is certainly sacre...

Re: difficulty rating

I would like to question a couple of points: 1. "A. Popular vote" I'll be frank. It's a good idea, but it's not one that I see getting done. The categorization project, as Kenny mentioned, has been ongoing for over a year and it's still not finished. To just do a few files using this syste...

Re: Overrated, Overused, Overdone, underrated etc.

Well, I think Bach is a very interesting case. A name that makes composers tremble, makes performers fall to their knees, and bores everyone else. I think that a majority of the dislike for Bach comes from the fact that it's not very easy music to know, and liking means knowing. He does, however, ha...

Re: Most Effective Introductions in Works

I couldn't agree more with the Brahms 1. I also think it's worth mentioning the third symphony. The two first notes at for the first movement form these 2 great pillars which characterize the entire first movement. Then, at the height of tension - which only Brahms can do with a mere F major triad -...

Re: String and Percussion Orchestral Pieces?

Hi Xaliber. I think this largely depends upon the level of your orchestra. One piece that immediately comes to mind that uses strings and percussion, but no winds, is Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celsta by Bela Bartok. It is, however, a highly advanced piece. Have you considered possibly using...

scoremus

Hi all. Has anyone had any experience with this program? It seems like an incredibly powerful notation system. Here is an example page: http://scoremus.com/psexm2.html It's very expensive and I'm not even sure how to get it. There is no online download, and would need to be installed via CD. Just wo...

Re: Easy Pieces for Violin and Piano

The solo violin sonatas and partitas are fairly difficult, especially the 3rd sonata. The fugue is fairly difficult. At some point I'll record the 6, but I'm looking for very easy repertoire for violin and piano right now. Thanks for the suggestions. Very helpful. I'll look through the composers you...

Easy Pieces for Violin and Piano

Does anyone have any suggestions for some pieces for violin and piano? I'm looking more in the realm of obscure repertoire, which is easy / medium in difficulty. Thanks for any suggestions you might have. Ah, yes, and please let it be public domain worldwide ;)
