Re: Sonatas à 2 / Trio Sonatas

Don't worry about it for tagging, because in this case, the tag would be "sonata" in any case, and not "trio" or "duo". So the title should be exactly what is on the page, and the tag will be "sonata". However, there are cases in which it is a relevant questio...

Re: Gershwin, Piano Concerto in F

If that is Francis Salabert, he died in 1946, making him PD in life+50 countries, and nearly PD in life+70 countries . . . (tantalizing).

Re: Gershwin, Piano Concerto in F

From what I understand, there is no information on exactly what the editor's contributions were, which makes it difficult to work out whether it is covered. Obviously I'm hoping that the very first edition had no editor . . . .

Re: Gershwin, Piano Concerto in F

Thanks for this information: OCLC 659261594 has a publication date of 1954, but it looks like the other two are actually from 1942, though both have the editor's name in square brackets, which usually means it is interpolated information. On the surface of it, there is an outside chance that someone...

Gershwin, Piano Concerto in F

The last post on this piece, from 2012, got quite emotional, so I am going to start again. I am not looking for the score edited by Frank Campbell-Watson (he only died in 1980), but WorldCat shows a 1942 Salabert publication that doesn't seem to have an editor. This could be an incomplete entry by w...

Re: Do we have a good ornamentation chart?

No, it's just for a teaching method course, so I'm looking for something as a starting point -- I can explain about countries/time periods, etc. but I would like an example I can print that is clear and well laid out. I will look at the two you have given me links for tomorrow. Thanks!!

Do we have a good ornamentation chart?

Does anyone know of a book at IMSLP that has a particularly good ornamentation chart? Thanks!

Re: D. F. Tovey Clarinet Sonata

I got a very quick reply from Grove Music to say they would review it and look at the references. I don't know how long that will take, but I find them very receptive to looking at things that might be wrong.

Re: D. F. Tovey Clarinet Sonata

Interesting, and thanks for the reference. I have checked it out, and I have also contacted Grove Music, who gives the 1906 date. They are usually very interested to hear about things that need to be corrected. In the meantime, I have changed the page and put a comment in about Grove.

Re: score #64699

The last page I see music on is p.8, and although it doesn't look like a final double bar, just the "lesser" double bar, it does seem to be a cadence. Are you sure this isn't the end of the music?

Re: How do I link a work by Josquin Desprez

If you want the composers name first, i.e. "Josquin Desprez: work", then it is {{LinkCompS|Josquin Desprez}}: {{NoComp|Missa de Beata Virgine|Josquin Desprez}} If I remember correctly (right now I'm struggling to find an example of this, but try this and see) the LinkWork will be: {{LinkWo...

Re: Moving works to, and uploading them as, arrangements

When do we decide to put "Title (Anonymous)" on a page, and when should it be "Title (Arranger)"? I came across this the other day, http://imslp.org/wiki/Deus_ti_salvet_Maria_%28Simonetto,_Alessandro%29 , which you can find elsewhere on the net as Anonymous. I've tweaked things o...

Tilmaen, when might you be in Canada next? I am interested in using this piece on a concert, but it's in about a month's time. Thanks.

Re: Haydn Symph #94 score error - #6 instead!

With some composers, and I think Dvorak is one, there were also symphonies that were "discovered" in the 20th century that the composer didn't think worthy of publishing because they were young works. So they had to be re-numbered to account for the extras. 4 becomes 8, 5 becomes 9, etc. I...

Re: Score uploaded as Field's Nocturne in G isn't!

You are absolutely right. It's H.13. In addition, it is a re-working of another piece, or at least a movement of another piece. There must have been many, because the H numbers go through from 13A (Divertissement for 2 violins, viola, double bass), to 13 R,(Le Midi, precedé d'un pastorale (H.14); th...
