Re: List of Pieces with Russian Nationalism
Agreed, but it is still a nationalistic piece - so is 1812, regardless of its French tunes.

Re: List of Pieces with Russian Nationalism
Everything in the soviet era: Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Khachaturian... etc.
I really don't see the point of a list that ignores a very nationalistic composer just because he isn't of an extremely select few... Especially Slav March.

Re: Mahler, Overrated?
Agreed, but in his symphonies at least, even the quiet, transparent passages tend to be rather blunt. IMO, his song cycles are his best works because they don't have that trait so much. (Actually, I feel that his Tenth doesn't too much either, which is why I consider it the best of his symphonies.)...

Re: Petrucci Library Press
That's way neat. Do we have data on the most popular downloads? That might be a good place to start looking for candidates. How many are we looking for to start out with? Would any work be needed to prepare the chosen works for binding? Wouldn't it be better to look towards the featured scores? Wou...

Re: Mahler, Overrated?
The main reason I think Mahler is overrated is because of these fan clubs (which perlnerd666 and I seem to loathe) are musically clueless. I mean this not derogatorily, but shouldn't whether a composer is overrated or not be based on the music and not the supporters – overzealous they still may be....

Re: Mahler, Overrated?
I still can't understand anyone saying (and with utmost confidence almost implying it a fact) a popular composer is overrated, be it Brahms or Mahler. No-one here (or, for that matter in the world) who is an authority on the matter. There are many that enjoy just Brahms and many who enjoy just Mahle...

Re: Rules of scoring music question of a "newbie"
However, that only helps if you are writing 'traditional' orchestration. If you want something like Penderecki you'll need to go somewhere else. That said, undeniably helpful resource to all composers.

Just letting you know, it's already copyrighted there is no specific activity to copyright it. And have you considered a CC license? It allows your work to get an audience.

Re: Naxos Label
^Ditto.
I usually buy collections of things (Mahler's symphonies, Bernstein etc.) that small things. But they are usually great recordings, good performers and a good price, nothing much wrong with them.

Re: Adding links to work pages for online recordings
I wouldn't use mediafire. It doesn't allow Hot Linking (in the free account) which essentially forces IMSLP's users to read adverts and click extra links. Personally I use dropbox. You only get 2gbs but it's got great integration security etc.. I sound like a salesman, so I'll stop now.

Re: Solo beginnings
That is a solo, but it is not solo.... that was confusing... It's a solo accompanied melody, but it isn't the only instrument playing which (should) be the pieces in this thread.Raiders March from Indiana Jones (trumpet) by John Williams

Re: Solo beginnings
If we are going to mention things with a solo soon into the piece, half of all the concertos from the 1810s to now have a solo near the beginning. A notable piece would be Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9 as it is one of the first.
