Re: Mozart Piano Concerto (24) Horns in Eb/Trumpet in C?
... A pre-valve composition in F# would almost certainly use instruments in F# instead. I only know of one work in F# major or minor from the "pre-valve" days that actually uses brass instruments pitched in those keys. There may be others, but the most famous F# minor piece from any perio...

The del Mar edition is available in reasonably priced study scores from Barenreiter (16 Euros for the 9th). While the editorial notes in the study scores cover some of the major differences in each from previous editions, the full critical reports, essential for a full appreciation of sources, valid...

Re: Ravel - La Valse fingering
This arrangement is known to be rather difficult. It seems to be hard even in innocent-looking passages, like the two you cite. Good luck finding a solution.

Wagner - Gotterdammerung - 2nd act - Broadcast LIVE from the MET in NYC over WQXR. Good performance so far. The singing not nearly as bad as portrayed in the local reviews of the production's debut.

Re: Taking images from Library websites?
Why further bother the French? There's a perfectly legible version of the Couperin at IMSLP. http://216.129.110.22/files/imglnks/usimg/0/06/IMSLP03779-ArtToucherCouperin.pdf And, unlike other new typesets of Baroque music available at IMSLP, the ones for this work are pretty good, as is the Oiseau-L...

Re: Help with translating the plot summary of a Schubert Ope
Forget online translators. The following opera summary of Carmen, supposedly translated from a foreign language, was issued as a test for on-air classical announcers during my stint in college radio, way before the Internet. If you could get though the 4th act without cracking up, you passed. Act 1....

Donizetti: Anna Bolena, 1st Act. Streamed live from the MET opera via WQXR. So far so good. Then again, haven't heard any tenors yet.

Re: Help with translating the plot summary of a Schubert Ope
Taking the PDF of the IMSLP score, I made a TIFF image of page 2, applied an online OCR to it to turn the image into computer text, quickly cleaned up the OCR by hand and got this result from Google Translate (note, no telephones in this one). I'm hope you can clean this up yourself. The first parag...

Re: Help with translating the plot summary of a Schubert Ope
Below is Google Translate's rendering (as in render asunder) of an online plot summary in German that I found here: http://musirony.de.tl/Die-Freunde-von-Salamanca.htm Since the original dialogue for the opera has been lost, this plot summary had to have been derived by abstracting from the original...

Re: some advice needed for viola/violin player
find a teacher who can clarify these issues for you I agree -- find a good teacher if you can afford one. But the next best thing, though it is in a distant 2nd place, is to make videos of yourself playing, even videos of you just doing scales and arpeggios. This is easily done with any sort of vid...

the use seems prevalent enough On Amazon, an MP3 search for "Paradies Toccata" turns up 4 items, "Paradisi Toccata" generates a list of 36! However, the proportion of listenable performances (not dismally slow, or mixed in with wave action) is higher under Paradies. And the numb...

Re: Anyone can tell me the name of this piece?
One of the Italian comments to the video says it is a Toccata by Pietro Domenico PARADISI. Quick Amazon search comes up with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YOB28S/ref=dm_mu_dp_trk1 It's taken at a faster tempo and there's no sign of an orchestral accompaniment, but it's the same piece. T...

Re: Gershwin Piano Concerto in F Score(PDF)
There's an excellent study score published for sale; I wouldn't go so far as to characterize the study score I purchased (edited by Campbell-Watson) as "excellent." It doesn't come near to satisfying even the most basic, modern, text-critical musicological standards. For instance, nowhere...
