Re: Can anyone read Russian?

I can give it a try if you want (by no means an expert though).

Re: Favicon

The logo idea is very interesting. The problem I see with it is that it is extremely complex for a logo. It's not something one could easily remember, and I'm not sure how recognizable it is. I'm not saying that we should aim for something as minimalistic as the Nike Swoosh, but the current proposal...

Re: Hans-Christopher Steiner's "Solitude"

I have sent him an e-mail asking him if it would be alright to list the work as being licensed under Creative Commons by-nc-sa, and I will upload the work once he gets back to me. I had only a quick look, but it seems to me that the free art license doesn't include an nc clause (see Sec. 5), so I s...

Re: General information section

It might be a good idea, in fact others suggested the same thing before. It has also been suggested to split the section into two parts, with the essential information at the top of the page and supplementary information further down. This might be a bit confusing though.

Re: Favicon

It seems to me that in this thread we are presently discussing three different things: a logo : an immediately recognizable graphical element which would be part of the IMSLP/PML "brand". Examples of highly recognizable logos include the Nike " swoosh " and the current Apple logo...

Re: Favicon

Don't forget to make sure that people release it under Creative Commons Attribution (cc-by). Are you sure? Wikipedia's logo is not CC-licensed, I think due to some trademark concerns, though I'm not sure. Maybe we should check that before releasing any design under a CC-license. http://commons.wiki...

Re: Question about uploading new versions of files

To throw in a totally off-topic, pedantic and subjective remark on typography, since you are discussing emphasis: I would have chosen italics rather than boldface at least for "always" and "only". Boldface makes the words stand out strongly from the text, therefore you notice the...

Re: [FEAT] SpecialInterwiki extension

Not opposing the proposal, but normally a serious website should never change its URLs without providing automatic redirects (HTTP 301 or 302) from the old URLs. I know that it occasionally happens, but unless there are very exceptional circumstances, that's just very bad management. It breaks all i...

If we had a real logo, we could use that also for the favicon. Problem is, we don't have a logo designer...

Nice proposals, though some of them appear quite fuzzy. Probably too much detail for the small format.

Re: Music? Composer? Orchestration or Composion?

It's interesting that you bring up the comparison to science. In fact, some scientists see a similar dichotomy between "pure" and "applied" science as you posit between "artist" and "entertainer". I'm a mathematician by education myself, and I've met a few mat...

Re: Music? Composer? Orchestration or Composion?

In my layman opinion, it's not a matter of old versus new. However, part of the modern music I see as a purely intellectual feat, which elicits not emotional response in me at all. Others will obviously perceive it differently. To stick with the language analogy, I think it's not a matter of returni...

Re: Linking work pages to Wikipedia articles

Should this be a subsection of the Misc. Comments section like Davydov suggests? And is it meant for arbitrary external links except recordings? (It seems to me that the page structure is getting progressively chaotic. In particular, the work info box tends to end up in a random position somewhere i...

Re: No response regarding [B] status

As far as I understand, he is asking why the specific file is marked rather than [TB]. This is indeed because it will enter the public domain in Canada only next year.
