Sweelinck/Scheidt Ballo del Granduca

This page refers: http://imslp.org/wiki/Ballo_del_Granduca,_SwWV_319_(Sweelinck,_Jan_Pieterszoon) I'm not sure whether the SwWV numbers by Leonhardt, Annegarn and Noske are considered more accurate than Grove, but there is no such work in Grove under Sweelinck's page, and a comment on our work page ...

lessons from a liturgy

This page refers:

http://imslp.org/wiki/Spiritus_meus_(V% ... z,%20Juan)

It is a "Lectio", or a lesson. We have a lessons tag, but it is only for vocal or instrumental exercises.

Any suggestion as to how to tag?

aria buffa

This work: http://imslp.org/wiki/Lo_marito_picciuso_%28Amelio,_Alberto%29 is an "aria buffa", and there is at least one other from the http://imslp.org/wiki/La_Napolitana_%28Various%29 collection that would fit into this category, and the subtitle of the collection is "Album di arie b...

The description on the ballet scenario (held at New York Public Library) is "L'almée, un songe d'Orient; an Asiatic ballet in two acts and five tableaux. Music selected from the best composers of the day. Performed at the Broadway Theatre by the ballet company of MM. Bartholomin and Monplaisir ...

rags

Our category for rags specifies keyboard, but although it started out as a keyboard genre, it did eventually spread to other instruments. Do we really need to restrict it to keyboard? (Just tagged Bernardez' Ragtime as a rag, but then saw the "definition".) It seems to me the type of rhyth...

Re: Problem on Schubert's D.96

If I remember the story correctly, Schubert did this arrangement adding the cello part so that his father could play in the group. There is one extra movement that he composed himself, but the other movements are all straight arrangements.

Re: Are any piano scores listed by difficulty?

I have looked at the Carnegie lists Heather has given the link to, and they are roughly equivalent to ABRSM, Trinity, and Unisa. I would suggest manual lists rather than having to maintain the information on individual work pages, which will be too much work and inevitably will be only scantily main...

Monteverdi, Confitebor settings

Monteverdi did 7 settings of Confitebor tibi domine. IMSLP has 2 of these, or 3 depending on the listing We have two listed on one page, but the music download looks like it is only one, and Grove lists two different instrumentations for the SV numbers: http://imslp.org/wiki/Confitebor_tibi_domine,_...

Then I guess the question is why did Gal add the reinforcement? Was he known for adding things into his editions generally?

Re: Brahms Symphony No.4, range of clarinets in C

It's not really a discrepancy; when we do C transposition we use B-flat clarinet (usually), and this becomes a low F, which is within range. Brahms' clarinetists must have done the same, since as far as i know, they didn't make instruments with low Ebs then, though I could be wrong on that point. At...
