Re: But why try copyright reform?

All of this may be true, but it still begs the question that, with so few works in question, why take on the copyright morass and kill the site in the process. A volunteer-driven service website is not the forum for serious copyright reform. Also, consider that a Canadian court may so rule, but oth...

Re: Distributed Proofreaders

It is probably worth a different thread. The PGDP code is freely available, but will require considerable time and skills to set up and running. Integrating with Lilypond will be possible, but require people with skills in the area. I have set up Lilypond to work with Mediawiki before - once, sever...

Distributed Proofreaders

Project Gutenberg has its Distributed Proofreaders project, (http://www.pgdp.net/), which allows people to fix OCR problems, or transcribe hard to OCR pages on line, one-page-at-a-time. We have been experimenting with music, but this has mainly been limited to small excerpts found in various books....

I wish I could say that I had the entire magazines, but right now I only have copies of the centerfolds with the fanfares. I got access to them at the Harvard Loeb Music Library, and due to their somewhat fragile condition, I didn't want to push my luck by asking to copy them in their entirety. I m...

Also... copyright rules vary by jurisdiction, but date of publication seems to only be relevant (in most countries) for new critical editions (or works originally published posthumously).

Just as a side note, while IMSLP did occasionally remove publisher TRADEMARKS from scanned editions, it had nothing to do with copyright issues, but rather, obviously, trademark issues. In most cases, we did our best to include information on the publisher of the original print, and, when possible, ...

Furthermore, I suggest bifurcating the IMSLP into a Canada and a US based organization, both independent legal entities (or individuals), and handle all uploads via the US side. This way, the US IMSLP can accept user submitted materials under the safe harbor provisions of the DMCA (similar to the w...

Actually, jsnfmn... Project Gutenberg would probably also be interested in scans (or transcriptions) of the magazine as well. You might contact them or distributed proofreaders ( http://pgdp.net/ ) to see.

Again, I am not anticopyright - I get money for performances of my works. To solve the case above, it could be possible to set up a compulsory licence system, say, after 20 years from original publication date. - But the real problem of copyright protection is setting the balance between conflictin...

On the bright side, however, we do have access to the (more or less current) copyright database. http://bulk.resource.org/copyright/ And Redslider: I think the Public Domain Foundation is a good one (although maybe a different name, so folks don't get confused with Adobe's file format) and would lik...

Eh, actually, no: "We further demand that you institute a filtering system to the IMSLP that would prevent any further uploading of the UE Artists's scores until after the expiry of European and Canadian copyright in those works." They did not demand IP filters, they demanded filters that...

I am doubtful they will accept the ISP-level filtering, however. :-/ But I'll keep my fingers crossed (which makes it very difficult to type, let me tell you...)
