Re: College Advice

I like the fact that you seem very serious about this so early on, but you do have a some time left until you actually start preparing for college (end of junior year) as you did mentioned. One option I can suggest for you is to go to a high school dedicated to the arts. You will have teachers there...

Band Arrangements of Orchestral Pieces

I have noticed IMSLP has Cappricio Espagnol arranged for band, but I would too see more of these old, classic band transcriptions uploaded. Some I would like to see added are: Wagner: Prelude to Act I of Die Meistersinger Borodin: Polovtsian Dances Smetana: Three Dances from the Bartered Bride Weber...

Anton Bruckner's String Quintet in F major: IV. Finale; Lebhaft bewegt

Raphael Quartet with Prunella Pacey, viola

The only Bruckner I like so far. You have nice melodies and some emotional moments in this one.

Re: Help Indentifying Music

Yeah, the claimed Tchaikovsky Sixth track is Mendelssohn's Overture for Winds, Op. 24. But I must agree with sbeckmesser, there are parts of that Military Overture that sound like Leroy Anderson. I listened to the whole recording, and I can't help thinking that it reminds of Bugler's Holiday. :)

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Then again, the Rimsky-Korsakov isn't a march -- unless you've got three legs. Haha, the 3/4 meter. :) I'm listening to Wagner's Tannhauser: Dir tone Lob! I love the duet between the voice and the harp where the melody comes from one of the main themes of the overture. Who also can't love...

Harmonizing a Melody

I am starting to compose, and I know a descent amount of theory, but I am terrible at harmonization. I am using triads and all but the harmonization just sounds so awkward. Often, I get stuck using a very limited amount of chords. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What Instrument Do You Play?

Yagan Kiely, who hasn't been on the forums in a while, posted something similar to this a long time ago but I felt very few of the regular posters responded. There are many of you out there that I don't know what instrument you play. Anyways, if you want, you can post what you play along with your f...

Dvorak's Saint Ludmila

It appears we only have selections from this oratorio by the great composer Dvorak arranged for organ solo. Can anybody upload the vocal score? Thanks.

Re: Help Indentifying Music

Thanks. The site where I downloaded the track did say it was by Mendelssohn. So I was skeptic for the same reasons you mentioned above.
