Re: Are Erwin Schulhoff's works public domain?

cool guys, thanks a lot! :) seems like I have to wait a few more years before I upload them, but it's ok, I'm in no hurry :) also, I have a Schott 1993 edition of some of his other works, where it is mentioned the work was performed first by Schulhoff himself - would that count as a public performan...

Are Erwin Schulhoff's works public domain?

Hi, I was wondering if Erwin Schulhoff's (1894-1942) works are in public domain. I have an edition by Ries & Erler, Berlin (1991) of some of his works and I was wondering - if I typeset them myself and I released the typesets under a CC license, would it be legal to upload them to places such as...

Kantele categorised as "zither"?

Hey guys! I was just going through some stuff of mine and I noticed that a piece I had uploaded, for kantele and violin, had been put under the "zither" categories (e.g. "for zither, violin" or "scores featuring the zither" etc). In the broader sense of the word, a kant...

Re: Where is the source of happiness?

I believe that happiness is a state of mind, not some tropical paradise that if we strive hard enough we can arrive and have a pina colada and dance topless while singing hallelujah with angels (or whatever the idea of paradise is these days..) To me, happiness is being content. Happiness comes from...

Thanks.

As the end of 2011 is approaching, I couldn't help but notice how much IMSLP has grown and flourished over the last years. I remember when I first joined IMSLP in 2006, the rate of uploads was something like 100 new uploads a month. And we were very very happy if we could keep it up. Now, it is some...

Re: Main Page graphic re-design

The only thing I'd like to see is a better search engine - how much more would I rather be able to search for a composer's name, a composition's instrumentation, a recording's performers, or for arrangements for two pianos bearing the keywords in question. I remember the old IMSLP search was appalli...

Re: Main Page graphic re-design

I like the new design - the only thing that bothers me slightly is that the blue gradient fades into nothing, and then the mental box that all the content is supposed to be in in that space of the page bleeds into the background white which makes it slightly unstable in terms of design for my taste....

Re: Bulk Downloading Option?

I don't think it is an overall bad idea - aside from the problems of copyright and ripping by other websites. It would be particularly handy if it would be possible (with a php script, perhaps?) to select which scores you want to download, and you could also bulk-select according to copyright (e.g. ...

Re: Padrucci: The iPad app for IMSLP

Hey, Thanks for your reply - it is nice to hear that you will keep working on the project, I am sure it will keep getting better and better! You are right about padrucci on phones, although it could be useful to be able to have a playlist/library of scores, so when you're going to a concert you can ...

Re: Padrucci: The iPad app for IMSLP

That's fantastic - I applaud you for your efforts (and any beta testers and guinea pigs too!) and the final result, it looks very impressive and I am sure will be appreciated by many :) Two things I am concerned about: is Padrucci released under an open license, such as Creative Commons or a GP/copy...

Re: Plan to make IMSLP available as a whole download!

I think the problem with torrents would be a) that IMSLP receives something like 1000 new files every two weeks or so (how would you keep it up to date?), and b) that - if I have access to the internet (which I would need in order to access the torrent), why would I ever choose to download a file ov...

download statistics (feature request)

I really enjoy the download statistics for files, but I was wondering how flexible is manipulation of such data. For example, would it be possible to see a number of total downloads for a composer's output? Or the number of total reecord downloads or total score downloads for a particular composer? ...

Re: copyright in derivative works

Hm.. Interesting. Thing is - with my piece, it would be absolutely and utterly impossible for anyone to recognise that passage. Unless I told anyone that this is where some of the material comes from, then no one would ever be able to tell. If I did tell someone, they'd still have a pretty hard time...

copyright in derivative works

This is not so much an IMSLP related question, although it could be. Assuming I take a piece by a contemporary composer such as Boulez or Ferneyhough, and I select 2 bars from an orchestral score, and I take those 2 bars and stretch them and re-orchestrate them to last 20 minutes. I then go on to co...
