Fair enough
Thanks a lot - I had no idea, but this makes it a lot clearer.

Re: Can anyone read Russian?
Woah, thanks lots! I'm fairly sure "Alexander Djubjuk" is "Alexander Dubuque", a piece of whom I have already uploaded. I'll get down to submitting the scores asap. Thanks again! EDIT: Done! I also found one more piece by Laskovsky, but I need to remove some tags so I'll do it wh...

Can anyone read Russian?
I have a PDF file with a collection of short piano pieces by (sometimes quite obscure) romantic Russian composers. I have been able to transliterate some of the titles, but some others are simply impossible! I would really appreciate it if someone could help. I have broken down the collection to the...

Re: Scores in old notation (medieval, renaissance etc)
Fair enough.. Well, then - I'll try and find composers whose works are not on IMSLP in manuscript or re-typeset forms, so it will be more of an addition rather than just adding the old-notation version of already-uploaded pieces (and then people can make their own typesets/typesettings/whatever of t...

Re: Piece Styles
I don't think we can devise one system that will cover all grey areas. That's very true :) I think my problem is the following: http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Baroque and http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Baroque_composers . The first one says "This genre contains all works written by baroque com...

Re: Scores in old notation (medieval, renaissance etc)
Sounds great then I'll get down to it. Any preferences, or should I just grab a random book and scan it?
the only problem might be that the book is a bit too big for the scanner. I will see if I can get around it, though.

Re: Piece Styles
"Modernism" in music has a very specific meaning, and it is mostly applied to compositions of the early 20th century - precisely describing all those composers who are consciously moving further away from common practice and into discovering new thigns, until in 1945 music was "writte...

Scores in old notation (medieval, renaissance etc)
I was going through my university's library today and I saw a lot of medieval and renaissance scores in original notation. They were collected in volumes, usually focused (usually) around a composer. I think there was a preface by an editor, but I am fairly sure the music itself has not been edited,...

Re: "Category:" to "Composer:"
Well, we could have an "Authors" or "Writers" category too! And if a composer has written a text (e.g. Berlioz, Rimsky-Korsakov, whatever), then the books could be in another section, so we'd have "Compositions by X" and below that "Books by X" or "Articl...

Re: Piece Styles
Yeah - although ditching them might cause problems in terms of the time periods that are used for browsing scores. Is there no way the pieces could have a "date" field (i.e. date of composition) (and potentially another field for "date of publication), which not only shows up in the w...
Re: Favicon
Leonard is very right - neither of the phrases has anything to do with music, which is primarily what IMSLP has to do with. Maybe the five circles with a big quaver note on the left side? That would refer to music, and be quite simple. And if the stem extended outside the circles, PML could be writt...

Re: MIT Project
That is great news!
I am glad we had this done - it had lots and lots of scores, I remember, although a lot of them were not PD and some of them weren't even the piece that was titled, which made things a bit confusing from time to time.
I think this thread can be locked now

"Category:" to "Composer:"
I don't know much about the internal structures/functions of wikis, but I was wondering if it would be possible to change the Category: function (or add another one on top - with the same function but different names), and instead of the composer pages saying "Category:Beethoven, Ludwig van&quo...

Some layout questions
I was wondering about translated pages - are we going to use the top-navigation bar for other translations of the same page, or should we take it completely off even from the pages it already exists? (e.g. http://imslp.org/wiki/IMSLP:Sitemap) Also, should we have another forum for all threads relate...
