Re: John P. Sousa - The Stars and Stripes forever.

FWIW, last time I checked there is no arranged credited on the "Great Marches" CD that has Bernstein recording the piece, which would presumably be the same version they are playing. I have another CD that doesn't credit an arranger of the piece as well and credits others on it.

Re: Gustav Holst's Wind Band Transcriptions for his Planet S

Given the fact that Imogen Holst didn't list it, not is there any indication he made wind band transcriptions for any of his works, I find it hard to believe. Once again, no arranger listed is NOT evidence. And a note on some wiki is hardly evidence either, especially as they may have used the same ...

Re: What to do with some opera selections?

Strauss wrote a huge amount of works based on opera music but they are their own independent works. Some of the more well known ones are Roses from the South, Op. 338, At the Hunt, Op. 373 and Du und Du, Op. 367. There's absolutely NO reason they shouldn't be on independent pages. As most of Strauss...

I doubt anyone here will help you, considering such a site would be violating copyright.

Re: Gustav Holst's Wind Band Transcriptions for his Planet S

Where did you get the idea he made any?

Certainly his daughter didn't mention it in the catalog of works she compiled.

Re: MIDI

There''s a huge number of programs that will allow you to edit MIDI files. Just load the file, mute the track with the solo instrument, and you're golden. You could probably even use the demo of Sonar.

Re: Prokofiev's Works

There is no way. IMSLP made the decision many years ago to not have IP sensor tech to allow or disallow downloads, as it is very unreliable. If a piece is not DLable by you, it's not DLable by anyone.

Re: Ravel, Sonata for violin and cello

The issue of if Ravel changed anything from the original Debussy memorial to the sonata is a mysterious one. There's no separate catalog number, so clearly Marcel Marnat didn't consider them different enough.

Re: Music related movies?

It has been years since I've seen it but the move Deception from 1946 (synopsis here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038461/ ) is about a love triangle involving a cellist (Paul Henreid), a pianist (Bette Davis), and a composer (Claude Rains) and is noteworthy for featuring Erich Wolfgang Korngold's ...

Re: Mozart Piano Concerto (24) Horns in Eb/Trumpet in C?

Not a horn or trumpet player so can't say with certainty, but I think that in modern orchestral works the convention still holds but for band stuff they now use key signatures like any other instrument. If I have this wrong then hopefully someone who knows better will correct me. I think I've seen ...
