Re: An unusual query about submissions

There is no copyright problem in doing this. The one you already uploaded was simple enough to deal with in terms of placement beneath the Arangements and Transcriptions tab. Rameau is no problem but there are already quite a few piano only arangements of later operas, often with supralinear text. H...

Re: A Copyright Problem until 2084

The answer to question one is "yes". Names, titles and short phrases are not subject to copyright in nearly all locations. Number two is more in the "maybe" category. A link, in an of itself, doesn't constitute an infringement. However, a link as you describe could be considered ...

Re: What is "commercial use" of sheet music?

In the US, the whole question of critical editions remains unchallenged in court, even though (as explained on our copyright pages) it's unlikely they would meet the "threshold of originality" established in Feist vs. Rural . Performance rights societies do not collect on performances or b...

That's a tagging error. Haas' editions of the Bruckner items are free in the US, as Kalmus has been printing and selling them for decades.

Re: Rimsky-Korsakov's "Servilia" -- p-v score -- advice

As you can see from the considerable number of things he's added, Sam definitely knows his way around a scanner. I've sent him things from my own collection, and things arrive back in good shape. Those older Soviet prints often have very acidic and brittle paper, so great care must be taken.

Fixed, though the originality of the "contrafactum" is very dubious.

Re: What is "commercial use" of sheet music?

Not all performing rights societies recognize the Creative Commons licenses, though some do. The definition of a commercial performance varies as well. In the USA, the rule is that performance fees are due as long as anyone connected with the performance is paid, with the sole exception being perfor...

Re: Orchestration search

part of the problem with this is that there are several systems for notation of orchestation, some much more precise (and therefore more cumbersome) than others. Eventually we'll come up with a template which handles it all, but I imagine it would be a fairly complex one to engineer.

...and if it's a book, add the field |Page Type=Book (works just the same as the added field for Collections) to General Info.

Re: Copyrighted score

Yes, it's the ol' Henle boobytrap again. The item is from a 1987 collection and would be fine under our so-called "urtext" rule if the fingerings of Hans-Martin Theopold were removed (over 25 years old). The actual literal translation of the term employed by Germany's section 70 is "S...

Re: "Il primo libro delle musiche" by Francesca Caccini

It's there under her collections tab. Like most composers of the era, her works were issued in collections designed to fit the formats of printing presses avilable and pricing based on a set number of sheets. The volume contains around 36 works which were not intended to be heard in one sitting. Eve...

Re: Can I add my own "for sale" link?

That is easily done also. Just put in a Url in the Misc. Notes field. If you have a number of scores you are selling at LuLu, leave a note on my talk page on the wiki and we will set up a template you can use for this purpose.

Re: incorrect period for composer Thomas Tomkins

Some writers on the subject take the position that the Renaissance style lasted longer in England than elsewhere - even up to the period of Charles I and the English civil war. If nothing else the modal inflection present in the early Baroque music of composers like Monteverdi persisted longer there...
