A concern I've had for a while is the fact that the file-to-work-page relationship is (potentially) many-to-many; it would be good to have some way to verify the tags for the files themselves, so we don't have to review files that have already been reviewed. Feldmahler, what does the IMSLP index hav...

This is just a suggestion; I completely understand if at this point in time you guys don't want to pay $155.40 CAD per year to handle part of IMSLP's expenses... :) It's a good idea... But I can't do $140 USD right now, even if it's for a whole year. I could probably do $20-40, though. Shared serve...

Re: Icking Archive
Well... your in luck there 'cause I actually never drink ;) Just a funny habit of mine. Don't worry, we all have our funny habits... I'm not totally addicted to not drinking, but I've never been drunk in my life either ;) Psshh, you all are missing out! (on the hangovers, the vomiting... yeah, I do...

Hey there, Just for your interest, here is the script I use (combined with the find command and pdftk; convert is part of ImageMagick). It results in pdfs half the size of the .pngs (which are generally ~157kB for me). Works in Linux, and probably would work in OS X, too. find *.png -exec png2pdf.sh...

Copyright Questions
Hokay, so here's a new thread... And, Carolus, I wanted to ask you: suppose something is eligible for copyright in another country, but not normally eligible in the US. Does the US honor the foreign copyright, even though if it had been produced in the US it would be ineligible?

He should do his own engraving (and thus learn how much work this is). In my opinion this is not only a question of copyright but of fairness. I did the work, I re-arranged the piano part so that it is playable, I did the layout in a way that the piano player can play instead of turning pages, and ...

It's the old dilemma: fast, cheap, good: pick two. If you were to obtain the Dover score, for example (most likely the cheapest to purchase), you could certainly make your own parts using Sibelius, Finale, Noteworthy or Lilypond. But you'd finish in July. :-) I'd go for the Kalmus ('cept maybe for t...

Simple transposition does not qualify, nor does re-engraving with zero changes. In other words, something original (however minimal) must be added. Ok, but what qualifies as 'something original'? Tweaking the layout to allow for better page turns? Adding measure numbers? Creating parts from a score...

Err, right, but the points are still valid: multiple categorization schemes could be implemented (if it were written generally enough, perhaps only a small amount of tweaking would be required), so you're not bound to any one scheme, and changing (or adding) schemes won't result in work lost to anot...
Of course, one of the nice things about a digital library is that, since things don't actually rest on shelves, you can have them filed in more than one category. So, we don't have to use only one system. But, the more systems you add, the greater the complexity and the harder it is to maintain. *sh...

...IMSLP's rapidly expanding free library could constitute a significant challenge to the commercial viability of CDSM and like enterprises... Hmm, and for some reason, I'm okay with that. It could have something to do with my anger when they snatch up public domain works and then deliberately misl...
