The Dover edition is pretty cheap, if you want a hardcopy. $9 for the miniature score: http://store.doverpublications.com/0486411745.html Or $13 for the full size: http://store.doverpublications.com/0486258572.html Lots of places online will likely have it cheaper. Granted, it's not free, but for su...

I think I see what you're saying, but I'd disagree. There's genre, and there's title. A composer can call something "fantasy for piano and orchestra" and could still be the same piece if he called it "concertino for piano and orchestra" instead. For instance, Sibelius's 7th Symph...

Except that no one but Feldmahler and the other admins have access to it... (And thus, if something like that were to happen, blame could be squarely placed upon IMSLP, which is more unneeded trouble.). Well of course not NOW, unless someone decided to do it randomly and had them all before. Grante...

Well, there's nothing stopping someone from dumping the whole set of scores there, saying it's all from IMSLP and stuff, even if it's not officially connected with the site. Or making a torrent of it for that matter (which may not be a bad idea, actually, once the site opens, to make a torrent of al...

A quick search at my local library shows the 2 piano version (not to mention a number of versions of the orcherstral one...) I'll grant I'm in a big city with an even better library, but it's a point that should be made -- good libraries have lots of PD music, and you might be able to make an Interl...

I know that typically, a composer writes a two piano score with additional information. I.e. telling the orchestrator that strings here, trumpet, etc. short hand really. Depends on the composer. In a case like Williams, it's usually more than that. In cases like Zimmer, yeah it's probably like that...

This is a bit off the topic but anyway... Film orchestration is usually done by someone else for the take of saving time. If a composer has a lot of time (like with Shore on LOTR) or are certain composers that simply never used an orchestrator at all (Bernard Herrmann and Ennio Morricone, and most '...

Carolus, what pieces would IMSLP lose from getting rid of the US server (Apart from Stravinsky)?
Villa-Lobos, for one. A few others I can't think of right now, but definetly a number of great pieces to have.

Sibelius thankfully is PD in Canada next year.

Re: The show must go on

I would repeat (from my 1st post) that composers born after 1860 have no business being on the site. I know that this includes quite a few composers who we would all love to study for free, but unfortunately, it's bloody illegal. Suck it up & quit whining. BUY the Debussy, Mahler, Rachmaninov, ...
