Re: Gliere's op.64

Thanks. Worth noting that Worldcat, while quite useful, is understandably based on librarians' approximations and is nowhere near as good a source as, say, a really really good scholarly source about the composer with a worklist listing composition dates and first publication date and publisher (and...

Re: Upload not quite in correct place

One can control this somewhat in the "Modern" skin which allows one to select whether an upload goes to the bottom of Scores, Parts, etc.

Re: Parry, "Hear my words, ye people" holograph

Putting it under tab Choral Scores. (Complete doesn't refer to number of instruments- vertical completeness - but to horizontal, page 1 to n- completeness, hence "complete scores" can be complete -vocal- scores if they're under the vocal scores tab, they don't have to be -full- scores. If ...

Re: Poème Nocturne | Prosper Van Eechaute

Incidentally, I think there is at least one commercial recording, the only non-piano/chamber recording I'm aware of of the composer's work.

Re: Gliere's op.64

are these composition or publication dates? Works not published until after 1972 are not in the public domain in Canada or in the US (and there, it's first publication in the US), and nothing by Glière is PD in Europe until 2027 at earliest, so works first published in 1973 or later in that list wil...

Re: Sort of random request, sorry (Paul Caro)

Apologies for forgetting about this topic for 6ish years. Apparently ÖNB has (not yet digitized) about 50 works by him, chamber, operatic and otherwise, in their catalog, including "Hero und Leander", "Die Hochzeit zu Ulfosa", "Op. 2. Sonate (F-Dur) für Pianoforte u. Violine...

Re: Works with same opus number

This is ... very not-uncommon (sorry.) Especially if the works were first published by different publishers and before a point where it was more common for the composers to choose the opus number rather than publishers (consider that this "point" was probably fairly late in the 19th centur...

Re: Seeking violin sheet music not on IMSLP

The Tulindberg work was published in arrangement in 1972 by Fazer though perhaps earlier. Worldcat doesn't seem to list any earlier publications of the concerto that I can find, but it doesn't list everything. The Campagnoli concerto was published in the 19th century and can be found here . Don't kn...

Public directory not writable?

Hoping this is a temporary problem, but when I try to upload a score, I'm getting "Upload error: The upload directory (public) is not writable by the webserver."

In light of the change in Canadian copyright

Is there a serious risk that the interesting qualities of US copyright will be brought in line with everyone else’s? (I’d rather not but, y’know, I’d also rather know if it happens, and my opinion doesn’t matter!)

Re: Canada is officially extending copyright protection from Life + 50 to 70

No disagreement there. As a (still…) “modern” composer born in 1874 pointed out, benefits of copyright began going more to the publishers than the artists already early during his lifetime…

Not in the US (assuming renewals properly done) or Europe, but in PD in Canada, since 1955 is before 1972.

Re: Canada is officially extending copyright protection from Life + 50 to 70

Of course, the copyright date for composers who died after 1971, assuming the law goes into effect, is life+70 for anyone but time travelers, as no time between this year and next will also be between 2023 and 2043 (say) at the same time - the public domain status of any given piece at this specific...
