That's a fascinating collection of manuscripts there, but i don't think it would be right to bring them over to imslp, firstly i think that most of the works are already here in printed score, which is more easily understandable, if less historic/interesting. Secondly, getting the files would be har...

It's a folk song. There have been quite a lot of composers who wrote variations on it. Here is a set of variations called "carnival of venice" but i can't see anything that looks like a theme or a simple folk tune in there, so it may not be what you're looking for. EDIT: it's carnIval not ...

they're still under copyright, which means that you won't be able to find free scores for them and even if you do then it's illegal to make an unauthorised arrangement of any of his music. You may still be able to buy arangements though.

All of those (not sure about the Siegfried Horn Call) are originally for full orchestra, and while there may be arrangements for solo horn (plus piano) you'll do very well to find one that's pd. If you just want to find the tunes, then it shouldn't be too hard to go through the score/piano redustion...

A potential problem has just occured to me: im in the UK, so how should i deal with composers/works that are PD in canada but not in the UK? (ie if the composer/editor died 1937-1957) I haven't found any yet, but they're sure to crop up at some point.

don't forget that a lot of downloading sites are acually legal, i often use the CoCoA site and www.classiccat.net I think that most of the illegal music comes from p2p transfers (limewire torents etc) which are infinitely harder to track down and stop than a website is. But generally i don't worry t...

The problem with a poll like this is that it assumes that people have listened to at least several complete Mahler cycles (i assume it's the symphonies you're talking about) which is an AWFUL lot of music, all 9 are large even by late romantic standards (most running well past 60 mins) and so it req...

I don't mind atonal music (i acually think it frees up the composer to do a lot more than within traditional rules) what i don't like is the lack of meaning when making actual music (as opposed to a collection of notes) either gets forgotten or just fails. Anyway back on topic: I agree about the nin...

Then there is Schoenberg... first dozen pieces are good, the rest are historical. :p That's reminded me of a quote i heard, not from schoenberg but from someone around then, which said (can't remember exact words) that a composer should never use more than 2 consecutive notes moving by step or the ...

I think the 9th is the best overall, however i haven't heard all of them and i've only really listned to 5 and 9. I really like the first 3 movts. of the 9th, but when it comes to the last, i just don't really get it, i think the vocal parts are too dominating when they come in, and i don't really l...

Wait... is K.331 the minor key (a?) sonata? If so, then I also remember liking it a lot when I was little :) I would listen to a friend of mine play it over and over... K.331 is in A major, the third movt. (the famous "rondo alla turka") does start minor, but finishes in A major. The mino...

A lot of what you say is true, but atonality doesn't nesecarily mean just throwing any notes in and not everything works well so although there aren't the pretty strict rules of conventional harmony and counterpoint, you still have to make sure it sounds how you want it (i hesitate to use the word &...
