Please keep up the good work!  But this thread is for Orchestral Transcriptions . I didn't see any orchestral transcript...

Re: Orchestral Transcriptions?

At Sibley we have digitized many of these transcriptions, both solo piano and piano 4-hands (all the way up to piano 8-hands: we have a Ride of the Valkyries so arranged that I'd love to hear some time). I don't know how many have been subsequently uploaded to IMSLP, though. We've done a piano 4-han...

These 3 works were all published by Carl Fischer, who continues to publish them and make them available for well under $10.

Re: Reynaldo Hahn

FWIW, the first cease & desist letter (and still one of only 2) we got for scores we are putting up in UR Research was for a Reynaldo Hahn song. Heugel seems to be particularly keen about their copyrights on this material, even if they don't seem to be particularly keen about keeping it in print...

The MS seems to be on deposit at the Morgan (and Debussy apparently forbid its performance). It was first published by Fromont in 1920. In 1968 André Jouve published a "nouvelle version établie d'après les corrections de l'auteur" with Jobert, and there's a Soviet edition from 1963. Check ...

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't have time to look up all the vagaries, I just knew there were different rules for unpublished material.

Re: Sullivan manuscript

I certainly cannot speak for the Morgan (or any other library), but several issues can go into our digitizing decisions. Fragility of the item (or, more usually, its binding in the case of materials in our Special Collections) is certainly one of them. While we do not own a top-down scanner like a K...

Re: Gibbons Works

And here's the finding of the Section 108 Study Group, which seems like it would have bearing here: Virtual Libraries and Archives Issue: Section 108 is generally interpreted to exclude virtual-only libraries and archives (those that do not conduct their operations through physical premises). Should...

Section 108 only defines libraries this way: § 108. Limitations on exclusive rights: Reproduction by libraries and archives (a) Except as otherwise provided in this title and notwithstanding the provisions of section 106, it is not an infringement of copyright for a library or archives, or any of it...

Re: Gibbons Works

In another interesting twist to the saga of both these works, a recent conversation with an IP lawyer who is also a strong library advocate reminded me of the only useful bit to come out of CTEA, and that is Section 180h. Sez the copyright office: Under new section 108(h), during the last 20 years o...
