Re: [BUG] Able to download "Blocked" documents

Isn't it simply that uploaders of scores are able to download them again even if they're blocked (or pending clearance), but nobody else can download them?

Re: Help Identifying Sheet Music

A very well qualified guess - it is no 4 of the Moments musicaux op 16 by Rachmaninov.

Re: Dittersdorf, Symphonies after Ovid

My understanding is that there were twelve symphonies of which six survive in their original form. The other six only exist in piano duet arrangements by Dittersdorf.

Re: Purcell, Fairy-Queen vocal score

The continuo realisation in the 1966 vocal score is totally different from the 1903 edition and a sizable part of the score is accompanied only by continuo. Where there is a piano reduction (instrumental music, choruses, some vocal solos) it is obviously pretty close given it is mainly a straightfor...

Holst's St Paul's suite and Britten's Simple Symphony are both excellent pieces.

Re: Identifying Orchestral Music with Harp

Could it be the Pas de Deux (no 15) from Act 2 of Nutcracker? This has two harps (although it's in G major the harmonic scheme is the same).

Re: Dvorak- Clarinet Quintet in B-flat minor (lost)

I believe it's one of the works from the 1860s which Dvorak claimed to have destroyed (together with a string quartet, two overtures for orchestra, incidental music and a mass setting).

Re: Grove's and Bakers

The Mendelssohn article in Grove 2 (66 pages while Brahms gets only nine!) is still well worth reviewing for instance. Of course there are some very quaint contrasts - Bruckner gets one column, Chausson half a column, and Meyerbeer 6 pages. I like this line on Debussy - "has occasionally, it mu...

I have a copy of the EMB score which lists the conductor Antal Jancsovics as editor. Unfortunately there are no editorial notes.

Re: Mahler 4 hands arrangements

The published arrangement is by J V von Woess (d 1943) who played it through with Mahler. One story is that Mahler let von Woess take the lead when they played it to see how he handled the dynamics - and when he over-emphasised one, Mahler took it out of the score.
