Re: New templates for composer and work links

Re: Encrypted PDF files in IMSLP

While I agree that we should respect the editor's wishes, the CC-BY-SA license under which the score is available permits derivative uses. If that is contrary to the editor's or publisher's wishes, perhaps they should consider CC-BY-ND instead. I'm all for JCFF unlocking scanned files of music that...

Re: Encrypted PDF files in IMSLP

I see that at least one typset PDF file I submitted to IMSLP, on the understanding that it would remain locked, is on the list (i.e. the Tchakovsky Research score of the 1812 Overture). If it can't be left as it is, then I'd have to ask that it be deleted.

Hi Snailey. I've never heard of this before — can you tell us more?

Thanks,

Works by more than one composer

A recent discussion on my talk page touched on the best way to handle works where two or more people are involved, and I (foolishly) offered to put together a few thoughts on the subject. So here goes... Firstly, let's look at some of the situations being talked about: Collaborative Works — written ...

Would it be possible for an administrator to make the following correction: Smetana, Bedrich -- should be -- Smetana, Bedřich (with an accent over the "r"). Could I also put in a plea to change Wilhelm Richard Wagner to Richard Wagner , on the basis of the Library of Congress authorities,...

I'd love to see some more orginization though -- for instance, if the 'original' score is available, or perhaps if 'orchestral' is We're working on it. These new guidelines for the layout of pages have just been agreed: http://imslp.org/wiki/IMSLP:Score_submission_guide/Layout_of_Work_Pages They wi...

Hello Philip. I wouldn't want to give the impression that I'm entirely uncritical of the LoC authorities (I still flinch at "Rachmaninoff", for example), and for practicality's sake we should probably continue to omit diacritics on transliterated names such as "Nikola ï ". But as...

Suggestion concerning Composer Names

There has recently been some debate concerning the appropriate forms of the names of some composers, such as Haydn and Satie. I'd like to suggest that we try to follow the authorized headings given in the on-line Library of Congress authorities catalog?: http://authorities.loc.gov/ Their standaridse...

These five symbols use a separate part of the Unicode tablespace beginning at U+1D100, which may not be as well supported as the natural, sharp and flat signs, which are from the "miscellaneous symbols and dingbats" collection at U+2600. Anyone want to see if there are problems with certa...

Fix for sharps, flats, naturals

Having been fed up with typing "C#", "Bb", etc. I've borrowed a solution from Wikipedia so that the symbols should display correctly. So inserting the following (case-sensitive) codes into the Wiki should produce the correctly-formatted music symbols of the same names: {{Sharp}} ...

Sortable lists of works

Hello everyone. I'm trying out a new type of worklist that can be sorted by title, opus, catalogue numbers, genres, etc. and would appreciate your opinions. One for Dvořák‎ can now be seen at: http://imslp.org/wiki/Sortable_list_of_works_by_Anton%C3%ADn_Leopold_Dvo%C5%99%C3%A1k I'm using the Wikisor...

That's a good idea. I can think of some very basic matters of terminology it would be helpful to clarify, such as "Cello" vs "Violoncello", or the best way to represent flats/sharps in text when referring to key signatures. It would be helpful if there was somewhere we could exch...
