Scanner does not like the color black

Post by haydenmuhl »

New workplace, new scanner, and I'm having a problem.

This scanner doesn't seem to like the color black. I do black and white scans, and any large areas that should be black come out dithered. I've tried playing with the contrast, but it doesn't seem to do any good. Is there any setting I should look for to solve this?

Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

My last resort will be scanning in grayscale and converting that to black and white in the Gimp. I say last resort, because I worry that will be too time consuming.

Actually, nevermind. I think I solved it.

The scanner had several black and white settings, and I was using the "text and line art" setting. I tried out the "black and white text" setting, and it seems to have had a much better result.
