Milhaud, Darius

Post by sidrockafeller »

Does anyone know the Status on Milhaud's music whether or not it is PD in the US? I was just on the OM CD-R library's website and on one of the Volumes it list's Quite a few works of his.

And there's not even a page of his on imslp.org

Anything first published before 1923 is free in the USA (only). He started having things appear in print around 1916 or thereabouts, so there are a number of items which meet the pre-1923 standard.

So if we are in the "New Year" does the Pre-192? Move forward a year or is it always Pre-1923?

And if there are a number of Items, can we perhaps get them somewhere to where US clients can access them on another Server?

US copyright is frozen until 1/1/2019. On that date, the 1923 items will pass into the US public domain - assuming the regime has not extended the term again for "campaign contributions" (it only cost Disney 600,000 USD last time - cheap at twice the price).

I am in the process of creating a "Milhaud archive" much like my work with Stravinsky. These archives will be a complete collection of all his works that are public domain in the US, which are fairly numerous. Since the US server is now online and works are beginning to trickle over, these will also be available on the wiki whenever all the scores are compiled.
