Revd J.T. Evans

I have a Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by a Revd J.T. Evans, which I scanned from a secondhand copy.

The frontispiece is above: it has a hand-written inscription "A relic of Cambridge days 1896-1898". The work is dedicated to Revd Harry Smith, who was vicar of St Andrew the Great in Cambridge from 1891. So the work looks to have been written some time in the 1890s.

However, I haven't been able to find any records of Revd Evans himself. Googling turns up traces of a 19th century vicar in Wales, but no-one I can conclusively place in Cambridge in the 1890s. It seems likely that the author of an 1890s work died before 1950 (and it's therefore out of copyright in the EU) but it's certainly possible that he didn't.

I'd be interested if anyone can track him down further!

Excellent find, I think this is right - and the A.W.W.E. could well be the Welsh historian Rev. A.W. Wade-Evans who may be a relation
