new style

Post by horndude77 »

I applaud the effort to customize the style of the page, but I have to complain.

- It seems that the font has been enlarged unneccessarily.
- The logo's blue clashes with the background blue. (perhaps just make the background of the logo clear)
- The yellow in the headings clashes with the normal white background.

Really the font size is my biggest complaint. Also thanks for all the work on the site. It seems that the site is growing everyday.

Hmm... I finally have an internet connection after so long... and I see there's been a few changes. Well, the thing is that Sphemusator asked me for a FTP account so that she can change the wiki skin.

It's a sad thing that I cannot really do any judging of colors myself, since I'm color blind, but if enough people find the color or font size unacceptable, I can change the skin back to the original. Also, I was wondering if the font size problem has been resolved? It might be my browser, but the font size looks the same as before here...

Style and preferences

Post by Sphemusator »

Rather than risk screwing up :? I have reverted the style to the original Wiki CSS, the only changes that remain are those to the "Welcome" box.

In the meantime I have been grappling with the problem of installing a MediaWiki on my standalone PC so that I have somewhere to work on ideas and problems without interfering.

I'm not even sure right now whether it is possible to install MediaWiki on this PC (Windows XP/Apache 2.2.2/MySQL 5.0.22/PHP 5.1.4). Despite carefully following the setup instructions (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Streamli ... tall_Guide), installing the patches, and checking and rechecking the code amendments, when I open the MediaWiki Setup link what I get looks like raw PHP rather than a processed page.

If anyone with a better understanding of MW setup can help I would be most grateful. Thank you.

Hmm... if you get a raw PHP page that would mean that PHP5 is not installed correctly. Have you checked the associations file on the webserver that associates .php with the PHP engine? (I forgot the associations file name but I'm pretty sure there's one, googling might reveal the answer)

I have just one complaint  --that logo is blocking some of the links that usually go at the top of the page such as user functions (preferences, watchlist, submissions, etc.)

As far as I know, this is just for the MonoBook skin.

Perhaps you could crop some of the top of the logo off so I can get to the links?

Please and thank you! :)

I checked the layout just now (Monobook) and the links are on the right of the screen, opposite the logo. I am baffled!

Sorted!

What I intend to do is create a unique IMSLP skin that can be made available as an alternative to the skins included in the MediaWiki package.

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, build 7.0.5346.5
It actually comes with tabbed-browsing and anti-phising filter, among other functions such as pop-up blocker, info bar, and such.

Could this be affecting the page layout?

Should I get Mozilla Firefox or Maxthon Browser?

Browser issues

Post by Sphemusator »

For what it's worth, I have become very cautious about using new Microsoft products since one of the Hotmail technical support staff recommended I switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox.

I would suggest, if it is possible, ask a friend, or colleague who has the new IE to try opening the site. If the problem is replicated my bet would be that the new IE has problems with the interpretation of cascading style sheets (which would be surprising, since IE 6 worked fine).

As far as I know, the only way to add an image to a message here is to upload it to the internet, then use the [Img] button above the message composition window to link to it.

It would probably be quicker and simpler to email it to me directly: novawoman@hotmail.com and I will try to figure out why it is misbehaving.
