composer dates/flourished?

Post by andrewt »

I just created the composer page http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Doll%C3%A9,_Charles for Charles Dolle. His Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Dolle states that he flourished between the listed dates. How can I reflect that on IMSLP (sort of like "ca."?)? For now I just put those dates as his birth and death dates.

I believe the term "flourish" refers to the time of his activity as a composer, not his life time. French Wikipedia http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Doll%C3%A9 says he was born in 1710 but also admits that not much is known about him.

The usual shorthand for this is to display fl. (= Lat. floruit, "flourished") beside the dates instead of ca.

I also found the dates 1699-1782 here, which I've put on the composer page. If, however, dates could not have been found, you can make the category display 'fl.', 'ca.', etc. by changing the text |Born Year= (etc.) to |Birth Date=fl. (etc.).
