I wrote to the Musee D'Orsay asking them how they got the score of James Ensor's ballet La Gamme d'Amour they are doing soon. There is a copy of it in the closed stacks of the NYPL. He was a musician as well as a painter who played the harmonium. I wonder, since he lived till 1949, whether anybody recorded his improvisations or where the the rest of his written out scores are. Anybody know anything?

The Belgian classical radio (Radio 3, now Klara) recorded a cd with his works and improvisations back in 1999. If I find some time I'll have a look at it. You can also try your luck in the Ensor museum in Oostende, Belgium (his hometown).
