what font do I need for sharps and flats

What font needs to be installed before the flats and sharps show up properly? I keep getting squares and lines, but not the correct symbols.

It's not a font, but a Unicode set (Most OSs have it).

No, steltz is right that a font with the corresponding glyphs is needed, otherwise the symbols won't display. Off the top of my head I don't know what fonts have them though...

EDIT: DejaVu Serif includes flat, sharp and natural. It's a fairly high quality font... and it's free:
