Dresden SLUB online digital scores

Anybody else noticed this?
There are no pdf download options for the many digitalized holdings at the SLUB anymore.
Work in question: Neukomm quintet for clarinet or oboe and strings (1815)
I can zoom in to minute detail, but not save even a single page.

Solutions?

As far as I know, they are changing their website from the old design to some newer one. In the course of this process several features like the RSS feed and downloading as pdf got lost, but they are supposed to come back in the future (whenever this is precisely).

I think it should be easier: Check the names of the files, find some systematics and then download them automatically using something like curl.

Hallo Generoso, I have not thanked you yet for the quick upload of the Neukomm.

Your monochrome and cropped uploads look wonderfull - how did you process these???
This should also come handy for the new scans at Stabi Berlin that are far too large (300dpi color?) to be posted directly, and it's a shame, if resolution gets lost.


In my old Photoshop 7, I got somewhat similar results by converting to 800 dpi greyscale (at 25 cm width), setting "threshold" to 152, rotating the scans if necessary and then applying a 2 point dirt filter before conversion to 600 dpi monochrome. As a result each page is about a 250kb pdf file. Have not tried to automate this yet, or try something like Scan-tailor for the rotation - but Photoshop is hogging huge amounts of HD space if 150mb pictures are rotated...
(on another topic: on my Mac - only one button on the mouse. - I could save the SLUB-scans by ctrl-clicking on the zoomed-in image)

Kalliwoda, You are welcome. It is a nice feeling to be able to find and save pieces that are almost unobtainable (or at least hard to find) and not only for myself but then make them findable for many other people, musicians, music lovers.

Here is how I process the works I find (well at least from Stabi Berlin http://digital.staatsbibliothek-berlin.de/dms/suche/.
(Using a MAC, of course, other systems should be somewhat similar):

• *Download with the Werkzerugkasten menu (they have added this very useful feature) and push PDF download icon in the popup window.
  *This opens up the PDF Download page - push the red PDF button.
  *Right-click (ctrl-click) to Open file with Photoshop CS4
  *In the Import PDF window choose Images select all pages and click OK.
  *Notice the size 41M, RGB Color, Resolution is ca.408 pixels/inch
  *Set-up actions:
  *Push create new action button
  *Name it something useful. (Composer or piece) and push Record button
  *Under Image menu -> Image Size , change Resolution (double it) to 816 pixels/inch.
  *Enlarge window to maximum (I am on a MacBook)
  *Under Image menu -> change to Grayscale
  *Choose ruler tool (in tools window)
  *Zoom in to find a horizontal line (usually the lowest staff line) Click and drag to right to make level.
  *Under Image menu -> Image Rotation -> Arbitrary , click OK.
  *Under Image menu -> Adjustments -> Levels (or Cmd L)
  *Slide rightmost triangle to the Left just to the left of right most dark mass area (each scan is different)
  *Slide leftmost triangle to the right
  *Check image to find the best setting (scroll around the dark parts and light parts of image to make sure all you want the best quality. Then click OK.
  *Under Filter menu -> Sharpen -> Smart Sharpen ; Amount 225 and Radius 43 click OK.
  *Under Image menu -> Mode -> Bitmap : change Output the same as Input (pixels/inch).
  *Under File Menu -> Save As (choose tiff format)
  *Stop Recording Action!
  *Crop image
  *Manually clean up any splotches or black things that should not be there .
  *Save again (You are done with this image)
  
  *In Actions window where you recorded the previous; click on the box (Toggle Dialog On/Off) for "Rotate first document" and "Levels"
  *For other images (pages) in the file just push the Play Selection in the Actions window. It will let you adjust manually the Rotation and the Levels.
  
  * Once all the pages are saved in tiff format Use Adobe Acrobat Pro to create PDF From Multiple Files.
  *Upload to IMSLP.

for SBB files I've been doing somewhat more arduous routines (though I do not have Photoshop, just iPhoto and I may have Gimp installed or re-installable, have to check...) - still, seems to work when I have time and patience for the smaller files.
