Scores I'm Looking For

Post by Guest »

For the past few weeks, I have been looking for scores for Mozart Divertimentos....specifically K131 and K136. Any suggestions?

Mozart Divertimentos

I am fairly sure they aren't available online yet. I searched quite a bit with no luck.

I actually own the dover score which is a copy from 1909. I'm still working out how best to scan them in however. Don't expect it any time soon though.

Queen of Sheba / Solomon by Handel

Post by Sphemusator »

I am astonished! This is such a popular piece, but none of the usual repositories seem to have a score. Were you looking for the complete, orchestral score? or a reduction?

There is a piano reduction available here http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/cgi-bin/sh ... reid=45998 if you have the Sibelius Scorch browser plug-in.

or for oboes, violins, viola and double bass here: http://www.theviolinsite.com/sheet_musi ... -sheba.pdf

Liszt - Funeral Odes

Post by Sphemusator »

I must confess that I do not know the Funeral Odes  and unfortunately my German is no better than AltaVista Babel Fish  , so when I found something that looked (more or less) right, I seized it for further examination.

But before I go ahead and gaily upload it, can anybody confirm that this is the work since this copy does not have an opus number.

The text begins:
Der Hain widerhallt von der Nachtigall Sang; Süss tönt aus der Ferne Klang der Schalmei'n;

Translation

Post by kongming819 »

I used WorldLingo's free text translator and this is what I got:

Original text: Der Hain widerhallt von der Nachtigall Sang; Süss tönt aus der Ferne Klang der Schalmei'n

Translation: The Hain of the nightingale sang against-resounded; Sweetly sound of the Schalmei'n sounds from the distance

Hain? Schalmei'n?

Then I used Babel Fish and I got the same exact translation...

Begräbnis- Oden

Post by Sphemusator »

The little German I have I learned from my late father, but I can't see anything obviously funereal in the text I quoted.

According to Babel-Fish "Funeral Odes" translates as "Begräbnis- Oden" auf Deutsch.

If my memory serves me correctly, Schalmei'n translates as shawms or ?oboes?.

???...anyways, are there any other unique/tell-tale signs other than that really weird line with the shawms or oboes?

OK, I have tossed caution to the wind and uploaded the file in question under the German title (Des todten Dichters Liebe). Any German speakers might like to translate the title for xenophobes like me, and maybe even the text which is parallel German and Polish(?).

Where did you get the mahler? '.tiff' is great! It's not so bad to convert them to pdf. There are a few (free) options that I've found: imagemagick's 'convert' and libtiff 'tiff2pdf'. I've tried 'convert' and it doesn't seem to handle ps or pdf files very well at all for images (maybe it's just me using the tool incorrectly). Give the 'tiff2pdf' stuff a try. It's been a while but I remember it working fairly well. (use 'tiffcp' to get them all into one file first) Another option would be to send it to another person here and they can give it a try. I'm open to give it a try and report back.
